Interactive Narrative

Interactive Narrative

The Witcher Sage is a series renowned for intricate and in depth story telling which changes depending on the stance or action of the player in certain scenarios. These attributes; the actions and effects are key components to interactive narrative within video games. However, the term can be much broader, broad enough to encompass any video game with semblance of a story line, for the simple fact of the player playing is an interaction within the universe the story is taking place. Taletale games are considered to be among the vanguard of the interactive narrative genre due to the focus on player choices and the effects they have upon the game’s narrative, taking the course of the story in completely different direction.

Personally I believe that interactive narrative still has a big place within the games industry. It is a brilliant and sometimes astonishing way to have an individual interact and engage with a narrative on a personal level, different from that of written narrative, television or cinema. Though this may not be a celebrated reason for the interactive narrative genre, the stories and worlds they create enable individuals to escape the monotony of life for a brief few hours, taking them from their sofa in rainy Southampton into the war torn regions of the Witcher fighting all sorts of monsters, or into the depths of space saving the galaxy in games such as Mass Effect or Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic.

Task 11/12 Summary

This course for me is very fresh and helpful because during the period of my foundation course, although the teacher also talked about these but not so detailed and profound. From this module, I learned the how to  analysis the content and critical thinking . Especially critical thinking, this way of thinking is very important for my future design career. Fortunately in this class I learned how to use this very well.

Task1 and 2 let me learned how to better use of Internet resources and how to distinguish the useful resources. This is because I used to use the cyber source did not carefully check the source and not view the authenticity of task through the study I know how to use the Internet daily research school library resources for me not only save time but also help me

Task 3 and 4 of this course are very important for us,  especially in our subject (Fashion design) we need to be more vigilant this lesson .And then  I understand Plagiarism and Academic integrity and the difference of the severity of plagiarism because it is not only their own moral corruption ,but it is violated the original author’s rights and interests but also to remind us to protect their own interests to prevent plagiarism

Task 5 and 6 is I understand how the necessity of artist reference has been written in the correct format of reference

Task 7 and 8 for me  is a very difficult task because of the need to read the article .I am not good at reading books and English content analysis .but I have to say that the reading process and then summarize lead me improve the analysis ability .But how to define the article , I still need time to improve

From Task 9 and 10 ,we learned in our ethical advertising. This task  for this course is very necessary because this not only reminds us of the moral bottom line of human nature and let us have a more profound ponder. I chose Duncan Quinn ‘s advertising as the theme of this task. this task made me think a lot about the topic of interest with the human problems and issues of gender equality in

the impact of my understanding of human nature and thinking of the moral bottom line of this is a challenge for me

The summary of this reflection gives me a new review of the content of my period of study.

This introspection process also made me have a new thinking about what I wrote before. This experience is very interesting and useful for me. It’s a fresh experience for me . And this is a very important experience for me. It is taught me a lot of knowledge and the way of thinking method I’ve lacked before. This class is very useful to me. Especially the process of teaching in class, I feel every class is high quality and the class made me feel the power of learning . I have to say I looking forward to every class.

task 11/12

Summary

During this entry course for ‘Research and communication skills’ over the past week I have been learning many different techniques and useful sources that I will be able to use each time I write and an evaluation. The program extended my knowledge on online searching and many more critical skills that I need. There have been sometimes when the lectures were hard to follow and I have also found it difficult to balance my project with the task given each week, but I have only treated it as a stepping stone to push my self to my best ability.

At the beginning of task 1 I was not able to understand the value of the lesson but as I searched more into the task I found myself noticing errors or habits that I have been making while doing my online research. During this study I was able to extend my research to another level, collecting primary and secondary source as well as aimlessly the surfing the internet for a good quote or image. This session has taught me to use the library more often because there are many more information’s found in books that cannot be discovered just by using google. The general skills I have learnt in this session has benefited me to write a descriptive research evaluation.

During task 2 I was taught the importance referencing the source that I have taken from the internet, books, article etc. having learnt Plagiarism in my collage years I was able to further my knowledge of referencing in the right way.  What I have found difficult in this task was finding the information about a certain source that was posted anonymously, it was quite frustrating to put into a Harvard reference without data about the writer or artist.

Task 3 and 4 of visual research and reflective writing was a difficult subject, the hardest part of the subject was finding the right topic to talk about. With the help of my previous sessions I was able to produce a review of the topic given. After a while of writing I was getting the pattern of writing the effectively, this part og the project was a stressful because of my project deadlines mixing in with my RCS work. But I was able to find my way around it and my solution was to relate the researches I was writing to my project.

The last task of this module about Ethics was a different type of writing from the other projects. I have this module easy because of the multiple skills I learnt from the past week. the only difficult part of this task was constructing the paragraphs for the analysis to be understandable, as I took my time I was hopefully able to write at the right technique. Overall as I overview all of the previews six tasks I think I was able to learn multiple new skills not only in writing but also in research, the only thing that I would have worked on was my time management for all the subjects because there were times where I was busier than the other and the quality of my work was not as consistent throughout the project. In the positive site this module has introduced me to new techniques that I will be able to use for any future evaluations, essays or even personal statements

Avant Garde

Avant Garde

The term avant garde means in the literal sense; “new and experimental ideas and methods in art, music, or literature.” In short, something ahead of its time. In the sense of games design, avant garde could possible be used to describe a game’s art style, mechanics or all round presentation. Two good examples of “avant-garde” in video games would be The Last Night and Ashen. These two games are considered to be ahead of their time based upon their presentation and art style as well as game play mechanics, vanguarding a number of gameplay or aesthetic choices which have since been used to inspire a number of other similar games.

Personally, I believe that the ability to be truly “unique” within the games industry is impossible. To be truly unique within the world itself is a challenging task, for everything comes from something and nothing comes from nothing. So it may be possible to be so out there to truly be   “avant garde”, but in my experience everything can be traced back to somewhere, especially within games design; either it be a previous games that has influenced the mechanics of your own, or a piece of media or literature that has influenced the aesthetic style or the nature and themes of the story you are trying to tell.

Task 2

Albert Oehlen ——Spiegelbilder (Mirror painting)

This book tells Albert’s drawing style, genre, and the unique technique he used to present his paintings in this book. His usual technique of painting is’ bad painting ‘, which consciously destroys the existing schools, techniques and vocabulary in the history of modern painting. In this book, he paints the conscious destruction by adding’ Mirror ‘concept. He is always out of the ordinary card, for example, he let the harpist musician to unplug the harp strings, making his paintings very attractive. The mirrors in these paintings give these paintings a sense of space, which makes the space in his paintings very confused. He consciously presented the scene as a two-dimensional scene in the mirror, while the three-dimensional world outside the mirror allowed the audience to see different scenes when viewing the paintings at different heights. He combines the abstract and the realism fully, letting the audience feel the attraction of painting and at the same time he has attacked the history of modern painting.

Academic Integrity

Academic integrity defined as honesty in acknowledging the work of other people and giving credit where you have taken other people ideas.

Within looking in this task I came across the topic of conversation of clothing brands using the famous logos such as Disney for their clothing branch, like jumpers and tea-shirts I believe that his topic itself is kind of sensitive as people obviously know Disney franchise as it has been established long before, 0ctober 1923, which makes the franchise 94 years old. I find it odd within using these kind clothing as I am not the type of person to wear such logos in my everyday clothing. However, I do believe it’s a matter of taste within people.

Disney t-shirt Topshop 2016

A similar situation with famous popstar singer as she battles with Topshop (brand) over t-shirt using her image, I believe that this matter is unexpectable issue as she didn’t give consent to brand, I do get that with her status she is very known and very successful to what she made herself into but she is human after all to not accept this matter. The source also implies that Rihanna sued that brand too in 2013, this means that Topshop has been feeding off people craft and bending the rules in terms of the law and trademarks, this such a big issue as people had been sold illegal items, for several years and keeps feeding off other people success. Where is the originality?

Task 9/10 Ethics

Duncan Quinn in 2003 created a fashion brand to make their gentlemen service style of the suit .His website described himself: “although Duncan from London, his view of the world is seriously affected by years of learning about food, in the description of southern France wine and life” he put himself into a sincere, has the tutelage, understand the delight of life, He describe a person who has a quality of life style of a perfect gentleman. However, after seeing this picture will find

Duncan Quinn behavior and his own brand positioning and opposite

This picture is Duncan Quinn’s first advertisement. This photo is reflected not only the question of moral bottom line, but also a series of social moral problems, such as the smell of violence, and so on.

Firstly, this picture of male models in neat suit and leather shoes without wrinkles .  On the contray, the female model has messy hair and the neck is also tied like an animal by the male model . It is not difficult to see the men’s messy collar . and this tie is took down by men model .He use his own tie to bond this women . Artist Aida Emelyanova said:”women not just a piece of meat ” but this advertisement is  materialized in female .All the details described that Women are not only objects but also men’s appendages, and they are declaring that men have an absolute dominance in the world. Then, in today’s twenty-first Century,  we have always held an attitude of opposition and condemnation on gender inequality . What puzzles me is why this advertisement is contrary to the mainstream view of society. Is it really something that the gentleman brand does? Because the so-called

freedom can constantly refresh the bottom line of people’s morality? I don’t see any respect for women from this picture only Duncan Quinn studios have a stereotype for women

Secondly, from this picture, I felt a violent atmosphere, revealing women exposed to violence against women in the car tend to cover the details, and the form of advertising’s greed picture not only on women even the children are an insult to mental injury

Thirdly,I think this picture is not to depict vivid images of women .And to a certain extent, damaging the image of men .Because this picture demonstrates the contents and their brand positioning completely draw further apart . This photo not reveals the gentleman’s image but a image of hypocrite .So, this can not help but make people doubt whether their hearts like a neat and elegant appearance they like or like the male image presented in this picture as the surface clean and inward is filthy on these “gentlemen”s real inner world

Overall, This blatant sexism and the indulgence of violence makes me think people need to rethink where the bottom line of people’s morality is.

Task 1

The creature I draw is based on a bat and looks very cute. As a result, I came to realize that this creature does not have to exist in a two-dimensional form. It is entirely possible to make three-dimensional models such as dolls and remote control toys. Cloth doll size is not necessarily, but also as a unique shape of the pillow, this unique product will make people like this type of doll interested. Remote control toys can refer to remote control planes, bat wings that can be tapped, horns that emit lights of different colors, and tail that emits sounds different from the body, which are very attractive to boys

Task 5/6 Visual Research

Issey Miyake is an artist that I admire and respect, and he is also a fashion designer. He is good at combining lines with fashion and designing very famous Lssey Miyake lines.

Issey Miyake said I first began working “When in Japan, I had to confront the Japanese people’s excessive worship for foreign goods and the fixed idea of what clothes ought to be. I wanted to change the rigid formula of clothing that the Japanese followed”

Through my research, I found that  Issey Miyake’ s design is not only for his Japanese thinking and some other aspects. we can see that he inspired by  madeleine Vionnet in his works, for example:

handkerchief dress, cowl neck and halter top. Also, the second important part is  Kyoto kimono. We can clearly see from the Issey Miyake in the shadow of the product. He is also spreading the pioneer of East Asian culture. Besides the traditional Japanese costume drama also has deep influence on him.

Through my investigation I found that “Brazilian designer Francisco” s experimental use of geometric Costa manipulations of fabric took Miyake s relationship with the body “and garments to counteract and define the figure underneath the clothes (Palomo-Lovinski)” these things, also inspire miyake a lot.

Through the continuous study of geometric fabrics, he has a deeper understanding and understanding of the geometric lines. And applied to his clothes. This makes me feel very admirable

I think there are many aspects that affect the design of Issey Miyake, but more is about himself. He has profound understanding of the geometric pattern and the high creativity.

overall,I have to pointed out that in his work .the another shinny pot is that he use the High tech fabric .

Task 7/8 Reflective Writing

The article that i read is ” Fashion as communication, Barnard. M.”

This article describes the resolution of the class if it is based on people’s clothes. Although there existed class differences in twenty-first Century, everyone’s equality is a fact that we can’t deny and ignore. In the article, fashion is dominated by people of high class and judged by social status.

In this article, he mentioned “Everyday we make decisions about the social status and role of role”, “the right and wrong”, “I don’t think this is applicable to today’s society, and it’s a very superficial way. Because everyone has his own attitude towards fashion and different aesthetic standards. Therefore, it is unreasonable to differentiate the class according to the dress. Because some of the rich and cultural people pursue simple life now. They will not pay much attention to fashion.

This paper discusses the different fashion for different attitude, because different people decided to fashion is not a single, perhaps It could cause high class can lead the trend, but they can not define fashion . I found an article to support my point of view, It comes from “Revisiting the Inventories of Artois: Fashion, Status and, Taste at the Court of Mahaut, C. 1307 – 1310 ” From this article, the author  consider that the  fashion is an attitude rather than the pursuit of luxury .Also, fashion cannot be defined, because the aesthetic and different way of life. Everyone can have their own fashion.

All these two articles have a common point of view is how to define fashion? It’s very one-sided when I just communicate through one time. During other person’s clothes to define the fashion is very one-sided. In my view,I consider that the fashion can not be define. This is because 他、he way to show fashion is not only through clothing , but also your attitude, your attitude towards life.

Through this article I see different people have different thinking for fashion. I agree with others view : through the dress to determine social class is the objective existence .However, in today’s society, using this method to determine the folly of this is like to pricing this is. I need to emphasize that the fashion is not just clothing economy, is also a kind of attitude. But this kind of attitude is what some people are missing. We don’t use old ideas to define fashion. Because the real fashion is an attitude. And attitude can never be defined.

To sum up, After reading these articles, I felt that my thoughts became clearer and I reached my own conclusion. I know more deeply about the meaning of fashion to us.
