The Terminal Bar, is a short, quick paced documentary film which is organised/directed by ‘Stefan Nadelman’. The film revolves around the Terminal Bar, which is stated to be one of the most shady and pitted bar, available within the city of New York.
The documentary is full of a lot of still images, mostly portrait photo’s (which Stefan’s father had taken over the course of working at the bar). The colour format to the film is mostly monochrome and it’s fast, lively pace is in sync with the rhythm of the film’s soundtrack.
It seem’s that a holistic approach was taken, by the director, when it came to planning about how to present the images within the documentary. The director has played on the visual aspects to the film, a lot of black is used and black is seen as the colour which stands for confidence and professionalism. The imagery used is smartly in sync with the soundtrack to the film, this enhances the visual and sound hues in a positive manner which makes the film a lot more satisfying to watch to the audience. The narrative approach taken within the film makes the film more direct with the audience which is engaging and comforting. All these processes used makes the film more appealing as a whole to the ‘audience’ which supports how I stated a holistic approach had been taken to the creation of this film.
Overall the director had taken an abstract approach to presenting his visual content which is something I really admire. The process I may incorporate into one of my own projects, was the process of making the visual part to the film stay in sync with the soundtrack. The process is gripping and I believe a lot of varied approaches can be taken to creating some riveting and thought – provoking outcomes.
