I choose this garment from Paris Womenswear A/W 2017 Valentino because of the elegant craftsmanship and cultural heritage. In this season, Pierpaolo Piccioli, director of Valentino, mixed Victorian style with Memphis Group and repeated in sequin-embroidered patterns in three colors decorating the surface of bottoms(picture 1). Furthermore, these ancient flowers and plants are printed on Valentino classic shape outers, which give us a sense of mystery as well.

During the 1980s, Valentino’s work became increasingly mature, mixing craftsmanship, luxurious but often delicate embroideries and complex pleating. We can see some kinds of details in picture 2, Pierpaolo Piccioli applied a vast variety of curves as decoration into Valentino classic design. Except the crooked lines, colorful gesture pattern is also quite artistic. As we can see, different gestures and numbers combined (picture 3) might be show us a fascinating design significance and bring us a wealth of visual effects.

To research further, I find various lace embroideries, 3D decorations and complex pleating in Valentino A/W Womenswear Project. For example, in picture 4, there are lots of black embroideries, bead embroideries as decoration to sketch the fantastic pattern. And in picture 4, designers use the red pleating on dress’s surface and put the lace pattern inside, which may give us a noble and chic feelings.
