Coursework

My 3 favorite projects in computer science at ECS

Over my four years at ECS, I've been involved in a large number of coursework projects, of many different kinds, ranging from the basic essay to creating three dimensional worlds. Many have been enjoyable, many have been stressful, and a lot have been both at the same time. There are some projects that really stood out for me though, projects that in consequent years I wished I was doing again (and sure I will do in the future). Continue reading →

First Year is Almost Over

So this is it, two more exams and first year is over. I can hardly believe that it was 8 months ago that I left what I knew and came to Southampton to start my degree. If you had told me what I would have been up to before I started I would have thought you were crazy ... getting BUCS points for canoe polo, winning our league and cup for rugby, caving for half of my Easter, doing my kayaking 3* and still having time to eat, sleep, socialise and do some work. Second Year is Very Tough

Second year[1] is very tough. I mean, I'm not saying that to scare you; ECS is a vibrant, fun and clever place but the point still remains that second year is hard. I'm sure that the third years, attempting to remember what their lives were like before the third year project hand-in, would disagree. Easter Break ‘Fun’

Having been back at home for two weeks already, the release of the dreaded summer exam timetable has inspired/frightened me into finally doing something productive this break after a lot of sleeping and catching up with friends! A blog entry might just fall under that description, and it provides a welcome distraction from memorising seemingly endless lists of UNIX commands! So, despite the looming prospect of five exams in seven days (thank you, weekend, for existing!), I thought Iā€™d let you... Continue reading →

On the Topic of Coursework

So what better to see in the new year than with a fresh exam season? Letā€™s ignore that though, and talk about coursework, as thereā€™s been some pretty special stuff emerging in the previous week. Both the Scripting Languages group coursework and the Computer Graphics coursework assignments were due in recently, and so the labs has been a showcase for some amazing software. Continue reading →

Project Submitted!

Project submitted! The project report has been handed in: the piece of technical literature which will have the greatest weight on my grade for this academic year. This was, in fact, done nine days ago, but it has taken me this time to recover and find the time to express the event in words. With the stress of the individual project having been lifted, there exists a sort of limbo which feels something akin to the day after the lord mayor's show. Continue reading →
