Busy Time During Exam Period

It’s been a while since I last wrote a blog, but with several coursework deadlines, followed by a hectic exam period, I have failed to find the time to write one. The exam period was a busy time, as always, with Part II Computer Scientists having all of their exams in two blocks of consecutive exams, which made revision a nightmare, as it was difficult to choose which module to concentrate on in the days leading up to the exams. It also meant there was very little downtime between exams. Continue reading →

Sports at Southampton

It’s been a while since I last posted a blog, but the amount of work set in the second year, even from the start of the first semester, has meant that there have been other distractions (although admittedly, not all of them are work related). Looking back on my last few blogs, I’ve realised that my workload around the end of the second semester of my first year was not too bad at all, really, and that I should have saved some of my moaning for this semester. Summer Term is here!

The summer term has started, and I have been welcomed back with an ever-increasing workload. A couple of pieces of coursework, a few labs for various modules, class tests for others, and revision beginning soon. It’s good to be back. No, really. The cricket trials were held for the University team over the last five days of the Easter holiday, and were great fun, despite some sore muscles and joints after a couple of five or six hour days. Exam Period

The exam period has been over for a couple of weeks, and everyone is starting to get back into the swing of things (which is why I am writing this). All in all, it didn’t go too badly, although the timetable for the first week was a bit of a nightmare. Who wants an exam at 9.30am on the first day of the exam window? The second semester has finally kicked into gear after the introductory lectures, and several pieces of lab work have now been set in several modules. Continue reading →

Seasons Greetings

Roast turkey. Crackers. Party hats. The Queen’s speech. Watching the Great Escape. These are the main traditions of Christmas Day, and of the Christmas holiday in general. And for the next three years, I can add a large helping of coursework and revision to that list. Although there is only one day of term left as I write this, I still have to hand in one piece of coursework and do a maths exam. Continue reading →

No Santa Outfit Yet, There’s Maths to be Learnt

Christmas is getting nearer, but I can’t don my false beard and Father Christmas outfit just yet. There are still several coursework deadlines to be met before Christmas, along with several more tests in the Maths modules. These add up to a considerable amount of work, and there will not be much relaxing until they are completed. Tickets have gone on sale for the ECS Christmas party, which takes place on the 8th December. Continue reading →

Jumpstart Week

Jumpstart week made a good impression on most students when they discovered that it didn’t begin until 11:30am on Monday, allowing for healthy amounts of fun over the weekend. First impressions were improved when we found out that food had been provided in liberal amounts for us, free of charge. During the introduction, we were told that Jumpstart was designed as a means for introducing us to ECS, to the city of Southampton, and most importantly, to each other. Continue reading →
