Living in Southampton

Life at Southampton and ECS

Aaaand breathe! Sitting back and reflecting on an incredibly fast-paced semester from the comfort of an armchair at home, Iā€™m struggling to articulate what life at Southampton and ECS is like ā€“ thereā€™s so much to it! Whether it be the challenging coursework, the (admittedly sometimes befuddling) engaging lectures, the task of balancing all of this with a social life amongst the swathes of opportunities various societies present, or just remembering to maintain some form of lifestyle in... It all gone so quickly

Less than a week left until Christmas break. The term has flown by with lots going on and not enough time to do it all in. Everyone seems to have settled in and found the things they want to do. I said before to give everything a go. Do it! I have found something that I didnā€™t even know existed before I came to uni. Canoe polo is an unusual sport (something like rugby and basketball in a kayak) but I really enjoy it and it gives me time to relax and have fun. Continue reading →

My attitude has definitely been better this semester

Looking at my last post is interesting. My attitude has definitely been better this semester (and I know this because I'm not nearly as stressed) but there is no doubt that it has not improved as much as I'd have liked it to. Despite what seems to be some kind of apathy complex, I've pushed myself to lighten up, get back in touch with people, and work (to some extent). The second half of this year feels like it's taken forever. Continue reading →

Silence that Speaks

Silence that speaks One of benefits of studying in Southampton is that it has the advantage of being a coastal city with an international port. It also has other coastal cities like Bournemouth and Portsmouth close by, which in a way offer different kinds of waterfronts. Those interested in sandy beaches would find Bournemouth more appealing. However, a very attractive location close to Southampton and still within the County of Hampshire is the Isle of Wight. Spring Term Is Coming To An End

Spring term is coming to an end which almost marks the end of my first year of university life here. A lot has been going on in the last six months from the very first day I stepped onto this land. I still remember the day when I walked out of Heathrow Airport, the excitement building up in me was so intense that almost instantly, the fatigue due to the 13 hours-long flight journey was completely gone. Culture shock? Not really. I guess it's just a different living style. Continue reading →

Checking the Weather Has Become My Daily Routine

Itā€™s been a long time since I last updated my blog post here. After staying in UK for about half a year, I have to say I started to miss the radiant sunlight back in Malaysia. Being born in a tropical country and having been living there for almost 20 years, I used to wonder incredulously why tourists visiting my home country love the sunlight so much. It makes no sense to me till recently I realized that I was beginning to miss the weather back in Malaysia. Continue reading →

Where did semester one go?

Where did semester one go? Without wishing to resort to clichĆ©, time has genuinely flown by. My friends and tutor group are so familiar now, it feels as if Iā€™ve known them for yearsā€¦ itā€™s so strange to think Iā€™ve known them for less than four months! JumpStart (programme for ECS students during freshersā€™ week) is now just a hazy memory in a brain thatā€™s being rapidly filled up. Continue reading →
