University of Southampton Life

Sounding the student voice!

The student representation pyramid empowers students to ensure the University provides them with the best study experience possible; both sides are winners as the University only gets better while students get an awesome experience! Students go to university to acquire knowledge and expertise within one or more fields of education after which they get a formal recognition – in the form of degrees - from the university recognising the students' work. Back from the Haitus!

Hello everyone! Well, I think it’s been almost a year since I’ve written a blog. I’m just starting the third year now. Gosh, I feel old. I was a fresher when I wrote the last blog. A lot has happened since then. Second year was just something else. First year at university was only the tip of the iceberg in every possible way. Right from the start I had a good sense of familiarity of the place. Southampton was my jolly good town. I knew to expect the worst in the second year. Continue reading →

Highlights of My Time at Southampton

This time 4 years ago I was celebrating my A-level results and getting a highly prestigious place at ECS. Now I am a graduate and I can’t believe where all that time has gone! I hope over this time I have been able to give you an insight in to what student life in Southampton is really like, but all good things must come to an end and this will sadly be my final blog. Final Post

I will not pretend that this last year has been a bed of roses. Having been given a torrid time of it would be a much better description. A combination of outside pressures and some initial academic injustices put me in the position in questioning why I was still here. However, life is not about the battles you choose to fight, but rather it is about those battles that you have no choice other than to fight them. Continue reading →

I Got a First!

I got a FIRST! Yes, that’s right; I’m now the very proud holder of a First Class Honours Master’s Degree in Electronic Engineering from the University of Southampton! All the hard work has finally paid off and I really couldn’t be happier. So you know now the end of my university story, but as I haven’t written for a few months, it’s only fair I fill you in on what happened in my final ever semester. Continue reading →

First Year is Almost Over

So this is it, two more exams and first year is over. I can hardly believe that it was 8 months ago that I left what I knew and came to Southampton to start my degree. If you had told me what I would have been up to before I started I would have thought you were crazy ... getting BUCS points for canoe polo, winning our league and cup for rugby, caving for half of my Easter, doing my kayaking 3* and still having time to eat, sleep, socialise and do some work. Continue reading →

Second Year is Very Tough

Second year[1] is very tough. I mean, I'm not saying that to scare you; ECS is a vibrant, fun and clever place but the point still remains that second year is hard. I'm sure that the third years, attempting to remember what their lives were like before the third year project hand-in, would disagree. Actually, I distinctly remember an argument among some of them on this very subject. Continue reading →

Epic 2012

It’s been a long time since I last updated my blog here. Well, there have been lots of exciting things going on. When I landed in Heathrow two years ago, that was my first time being abroad and I was doing just fine. So, I thought, hell yeah, put me anywhere on god's green earth and I’ll get through with ease …until last weekend. Just two days before the Easter break ends, I attended a conference like no others. Easter Break ‘Fun’

Having been back at home for two weeks already, the release of the dreaded summer exam timetable has inspired/frightened me into finally doing something productive this break after a lot of sleeping and catching up with friends! A blog entry might just fall under that description, and it provides a welcome distraction from memorising seemingly endless lists of UNIX commands! So, despite the looming prospect of five exams in seven days (thank you, weekend, for existing!), I thought I’d let you... Continue reading →
