My 3 favorite projects in computer science at ECS

Over my four years at ECS, I've been involved in a large number of coursework projects, of many different kinds, ranging from the basic essay to creating three dimensional worlds. Many have been enjoyable, many have been stressful, and a lot have been both at the same time. There are some projects that really stood out for me though, projects that in consequent years I wished I was doing again (and sure I will do in the future). Continue reading →

On the Topic of Coursework

So what better to see in the new year than with a fresh exam season? Let’s ignore that though, and talk about coursework, as there’s been some pretty special stuff emerging in the previous week. Both the Scripting Languages group coursework and the Computer Graphics coursework assignments were due in recently, and so the labs has been a showcase for some amazing software. Continue reading →

Freshers Week Come Around Already

So freshers' week has come around already; after what seems like an incredibly short summer, we are thrown straight back (with full force!) into uni life. It is very interesting how different this summer, after my second year here, has been when compared to last summer and the summer before. Summer 2009 I'm going to be totally honest; the summer I had before I came to university was pretty awful. Continue reading →

I Have Learnt A Lot Since My Last Post

Some of the things I have learnt since my last post: 1. Writing a compiler is hard (but fun). I don't know what it was, whether it was the timing of the coursework assignments, the abnormal length of the term, or just people leaving things to the last minute, but what we ended up with was one of the most difficult weeks of the term, as everyone furiously attempted to complete the coursework for the Compiler Engineering module. Sad to See The End of Frebruary

I'm not going to lie, there's a part of me that is very sad to see this February end. We were pretty much straight into the second semester after the exams (with at least a few days to get our body clocks back in order (or rather ignore this opportunity to do so and just go out instead)). This did not, however, stop us from enjoying at least a couple of weeks without a deadline or an exam to worry about [1]. Continue reading →

ECSS After Exams Social

I write this, my first blog entry, in the wake of the ECSS After Exams Social. I think I speak for all the second year Computer Scientists (and I suspect all ECS students in general) when I say that this semester has been a lot of hard work, and it's always nice to get out of it for a bit and see everyone in a location other than Zepler Labs for a change! As much as I've been working this semester, it has still been a really good few months for me, for a number of reasons. Continue reading →
