Authenticity for Dummiesā€¦I was the dummy ā€“ Topic 3 Reflection

At the start of the topic, my understanding of an authentic online professional profile was one which is true and unique to a particular individual. Further ideas regarding this topic can be seen below. Picture sources at the end. However, from reading Davinaā€™s blog, I understood that an authentic online professional profile can be developed across a range of platforms, not simply on those intended for professional reasons, but those created on social media sites aswell. Reflection: Topic 3

Authenticity proved to be the differing factor between most blogs by my peers on this topic. It was evident we all knew the importance of having an authentic professional online identity, as almost everyone mentioned the part social media now plays in recruitment. However, there were many different interpretations of authentic. The most common interpretation was to take authentic, define it literally and apply it to an online profile. This means you are who you are offline, online. Continue reading →

Reflective Summary: Authentic Professional Profiles

I thought that this weeks topic linked very well with last weeks. I also have an authentic professional online profile and therefore had some understand on how to build one. After reading the statistics included on most other blog posts,Ā having an online professional profile is extremely important.Ā I assumed that a lot of people would already have a profileĀ because of this. This is why I focused moreĀ on how to make that profile ‘authentic’ in my post. Continue reading →

Reflective summary: Topic 3 ā€“ ā€˜Marketing yourself onlineā€™

I thoroughly enjoyed the topic set this week as it gave me the chance to re-evaluate my own social profiles and presented a platform to share my advice, tips and experience in developing a professional digital profile. This week, I commented on Tobieā€™s blog as he mentioned the blogging medium to not play a huge part in recruiting. As this is module is based on blogging, I thought it was vital to get an opinion on the best way to advertise our blogs for recruiters to see. Continue reading →

Reflective Summary: Topic 3 ā€“ Online Professional Profiles

Through the last week or so I have established an understanding into the ways through which one can develop oneā€™s online professional profile to stand out amongst other candidates and increase the chances of employment. Reflection: Be found, and then be great

This weeks topicĀ highlighted points that I had not previously considered about my online presence, and encouraged me to streamline my accounts to maintain professional authenticity. The article regarding Justine accentuated just how careful you must be with social media. As discussed on Davina’s post, I consider this to be Ā something that we are all aware of, but perhaps in reality do not think this incident would occur therefore aren’t as careful as we should be. Reflection on Topic 3

I found this a very useful topic to research, as a student who will be entering the workforce soon (hopefully) I need to be in a position to market myself in the best way possible. I was completely unaware of how prevalent social media was in the recruiting industry. After reading fellow students posts, I felt we all understood the importance and relevance of keeping up an authentic professional profile and it was quite clear we understood what we should NOT do to stay professional or authentic. Topic 3: Authenticity Online

InĀ the last topic, I wrote about online identity and how what you post can damage your reputation online and the chances of finding a job from a digital footprintĀ that gets left behind. This weekā€™s topic links very well, and I will be discussing how you are able to create an authentic online professional profile. During a seminar last year for my Digital Age module, we discussed online security and were asked to Google ourselves and check to see what results were shown. Continue reading →

Developing an online professional profile: Marketing yourself!

While a typical work place in the past was dominated by the one-way method, which goes top bottom from boss to employees, todayā€™s work place should look more like a jazz band, as suggested by Don Tapscott (2014). It is believed that a two-way street is more in favour of todayā€™s constantly changeable work environment. Besides, as indicated by Nyk Nyman, with the rise in use of the social media, the job search process today should work the same way. Continue reading →
