Actually Finished a Lab

The focus of my third year project is coming along, though I am getting worried about the scope. Spent most of today researching the relevant topics, and putting the finishing touches on my ethics comittee application for a questionnaire I intend to run to gather requirements for my 3YP. Had the second of two graphics labs on Wednesday, I was much more comfortable with it this time around as I knew what to expect. Continue reading →

You know you’re an engineer when: You start to lose your audience…

You know you’re an engineer when: You start to lose your audience... I was at home in Marlborough the other weekend, while the country was still being inundated by snow. We were enjoying Second Christmas, a hobbit-esque celebration invented so we could celebrate Christmas as a family; my brother, Will, having returned from New Zealand that week. We were sitting round the table before supper and I took out my new smartphone to send a text message. Continue reading →

Not Too Long Now Until Christmas

#2 – Not long now This is weird. It’s nearly the Christmas holidays, and I’ve handed in a few pieces of coursework, finished my Electronics labs, and am now into the final stretch, as it were, with one more coursework due before we leave, and then just a few maths tests left. Freshers Week at Southampton

Part 1 I've been here for about 5 weeks now, it doesn't feel like it though... but then again time in University seems to work completely differently from the rest of the world. And yet even with all this free time, I always seem to run out, every time I start doing something I always end up doing it for hours on end. Continue reading →

Exam Time!

Mayday, Mayday, Mayday You probably know that it is an emergency call and I hope you have only heard it in movies. Actually, it is the best way to describe the current situation! Yes, Exams - the hottest topic in university at the moment. Whether it's classroom, labs, library, halls, cafeteria, SUSU shops, sports centre, Uni-link buses, university road, bus-stops etc (don’t know about toilets), you see people talking about exams. Crunch time in the labs

It’s crunch time in the labs. Crunch - there it is again. Crunch. Mmmmm. This pizza is really good. It’s Monday and work is still continuing in the part IV labs, despite it being past 10 o’clock in the evening. There are some things you only ever learn doing a GDP, and it’s easy to catch out the project makers from the project fakers. For example, a faker won’t know that the main doors lock between the hours of 2300 and 0800. Continue reading →
