Easter Break ‘Fun’

Having been back at home for two weeks already, the release of the dreaded summer exam timetable has inspired/frightened me into finally doing something productive this break after a lot of sleeping and catching up with friends! A blog entry might just fall under that description, and it provides a welcome distraction from memorising seemingly endless lists of UNIX commands! So, despite the looming prospect of five exams in seven days (thank you, weekend, for existing!), I thought Iā€™d let you... Continue reading →

Silence that Speaks

Silence that speaks One of benefits of studying in Southampton is that it has the advantage of being a coastal city with an international port. It also has other coastal cities like Bournemouth and Portsmouth close by, which in a way offer different kinds of waterfronts. Those interested in sandy beaches would find Bournemouth more appealing. However, a very attractive location close to Southampton and still within the County of Hampshire is the Isle of Wight. Weather Improvement!

Hi everyone! Finally the weather has improved. The bright sunshine has spread all over, with some colourful flowers and lush green grass making it more beautiful. Had a very nice time back home during easter, also had a taste of flight delays due to volcanic eruption but it was fun, getting 10 more days to spend with friends and family. It has been three weeks since I came back. It was a very sweet welcome by the busy schedule of labs and courseworks that I missed due to the delay. Continue reading →

Empowering Communication Tools

As you can no doubt imagine, it's been a little hectic since the end of the Easter break. The steady flow of coursework deadlines, in-class tests and lab marking sessions has kept everybody on their toes. Whilst we were in the Stress-Agony-Panic-Relief cycle of multiple coursework deadlines, we are now in the Stress-Agony-Panic-Relief cycle of exams. This is worse than being a footie fan. T1, C# and the EVAs

T1, C# and the EVAs There may be more acronyms than you can shake a stick at in that title, but itā€™ll all come clearā€¦ Itā€™s been a very busy three weeks since I arrived back from Easter, largely due to many courseworks and deadlines! This past week we had the infamous T1 lab, where we were challenged to produce a Tune Generator capable of playing a basic ā€˜melodyā€™ (read ā€˜hideous square wave beepsā€™). Continue reading →

Getting Ready for the Exam Period

I'm writing this in the middle of the Easter break. The draft timetable has come out and suddenly it's evident that the end of the academic year is approaching quick. In fact, I needed to remind myself it was April. The exam period begins at the end of May. As with all exam periods, this could be a little stressful, so I intend on getting the work in over Easter and hopefully not finish the term in a mad rush. Campus is relatively quiet as you would expect. Continue reading →

Exam Period

The exam period has been over for a couple of weeks, and everyone is starting to get back into the swing of things (which is why I am writing this). All in all, it didnā€™t go too badly, although the timetable for the first week was a bit of a nightmare. Who wants an exam at 9.30am on the first day of the exam window? The second semester has finally kicked into gear after the introductory lectures, and several pieces of lab work have now been set in several modules. Continue reading →
