Topic 4- Ethical issues for business social media use

Ethical issues concern the conduct of moral principles developed by behaving in a correct and honest way. This week, I will discuss the ways in which unethical misuse of social media by business employees may negatively damage business reputation, while also addressing how misinterpretation of social media content by such employees may lead to unjustified job losses. Image 1 On one hand, it appears that employees exposing business confidentially on social media is entirely unethical. Continue reading →

Topic 4: Ethical Issues of Social Media- Confidentiality and Professionals

For Topic 4 I have decided to focus my post on the ideas of confidentiality when professionals use social media. Perhaps they may be posting about their day or something that they experienced, and this may consequently break confidentiality. Key professions where this is likely to be an issue include healthcare professionals, the police and those in law professions, who have access to personal information that could help to identify individuals. Topic 4: Schooling Social Media Ethics

Having only been out of school for two and half years which doesn’t feel very long it is interesting to identify how the digital landscape has changed about social media. I never found myself using twitter very much however the use of snapchat Facebook and BBM was incredibly relevant. However, they were almost never from a teaching perspective. Given our current digital age it is almost unavoidable to bring social media to education. (ASCD. Continue reading →

Topic 3 – Reflection

I enjoyed this week’s topic as it was all about applying the technical learning from Topic 2. How to build a professional profile in the right way is of interest and importance to me. As a soon-to-be graduate, I often feel (and I know I am not alone in this) more than slightly daunted by the contemporary pressure to join the job market rat race. This topic has helped me to get a calm handle on some of the main things to be aware of online. Reflection on Topic 3

Topic 3 was all about how you can develop a professional profile online. After engaging with other bloggers on my work as well as reading other blogs, I found that being professional online could result in you losing your true identity. Once discoursing with Cherie on her post and reading this article, it came to my attention that you should not necessarily make all of your social media accounts professional. Continue reading →

Topic 3: Reflection

This week’s topic has really allowed me to piece together everything I have learnt in the module so far and begin to see a bigger picture. For example, the recap in my Topic 3 blog provided context to the issue with information learnt previously. Now that we are officially half way through the module, I am glad to see myself improving my blog posts and building upon the feedback I have been provided in the past few weeks. Continue reading →

Topic 3 Reflection

I really enjoyed this weeks topic on how to create an authentic professional online profile as it highlighted to me the importance and impact it can have on your job. This week, I tried to developed my skills by creating some better visuals of my blog. I created a table to display pros and cons of social media in the work place and then also included a video link, which readers enjoyed and felt they benefited from. Therefor i will continue to create these type of tables in my future blogs. Continue reading →

Topic 3: Reflection

In this topic I have considered the ways in which an authentic online professional profile can be developed. In my initial post I outlined a few simple aspects of a professional online profile, including the need for consistency, identifiability, trustworthiness and the importance of searchability. (Made my me for my first post on this topic, 2017) A blog post by Caiti led to me considering the alternative perspective on an online profile in my first comment. Continue reading →

Topic 3: Reflection

This week’s topic encouraged us to delve deeper into the issues of online identities and consider our own strategies for developing a professional online presence. As I reach the mid-point of my UOSM2008 journey, I’ve taken a moment to reflect on my experiences so far. Figure 1. Mid-module reflection (self-produced using Piktochart) One point that resonated with me this week was Mark’s statement that “success is when you can bring something new to someone”. Topic 3: Reflection

Upon reflection of Topic 2 whereby I expressed deep concerns and strong views on the need to keep your personal and professional online identity separate, I have since through my own and subsequent reading of my colleagues work on Topic 3 come to the realisation that this is no longer possible nor helpful in anyway and to me is not accountable as an act of the creation of an authentic online professional identity. Topic 3 Reflection

Looking back on my original topic 3 post I feel I largely based a profession online identity confined mainly to LinkedIn. As I previously stated this is largely due to its online authenticity and it being the most popular professional social media platform. Looking at Jobvite’s statistics for 2015 they state only 4% of recruiters are not using social media. Continue reading →

Reflection Topic 3

This topic on building a professional profile got me thinking about how I should start to think about creating my own online professional profile. Therefore, I have now started to create my own linked in account so I can start to acquire some useful insight into what looking for a job online will be like for the future, because so far, I have just had part time jobs advertised in windows, not online. Continue reading →

Topic 3: Reflection

In tackling the topic this week on building up an online professional profile, I realised there was a lot more to it than I first thought. The Jobvite statistics proved to be very useful (albeit slightly outdated) in relaying just how much employers rely on social media to recruit new employees. From there, it was an exploration of what steps you can take to further improve your chances of being recruited through your social media platforms. Continue reading →

Reflection- Topic 3

This week’s topic focused on the development of employability profiles. Cherie´s blog evolved around the concept of online branding, and how it assists in creating authentic profiles. Her research has shown that you are more inclined to stay professional, as you are restricted on the content you can display. As a result, it limits the probability of impacting your career path negatively. Continue reading →
