The Corkboard is filled with Random Bits of Paper

On the wall above my desk, is a large cork-board. One half of this currently has on it a random jumble of bits of paper including my lecture timetable, a map of the university, the passcode for my wireless internet, and a picture of Prince William on a motorbike cut out of the Metro. The other side is my Quote Wall, a veritable library of amusing, interesting, or thought-provoking sentences I've heard members of the human race come out with. Continue reading →

Fresher’s Week II, Free Food, and lots and lots of coursework!

It’s been a month since I returned to Southampton, and a very good month it’s been! It all started with me helping with the ECS Jumpstart City Challenge, which involved leading a group of freshers around the town whilst they had to create a comic book style story incorporating all the places we visited. We also had to include such crazy things such as being chased by a group of over 20 people, getting resuscitated by a paramedic and meeting the mayor, amongst others. Continue reading →

Hello Eager Spectators

Hello, eager spectators, and welcome to my page of internet-based thought dumps that many have come to know as a blog. Over the coming months, I aim to provide you with some sort of insight into my scary new university life... I arrived here petrified. Nothing in this world could've been scarier for me than being thrust into an environment of unknown peoples. Continue reading →

Jumpstart Again, But This Time I was a Helper

Jumpstart again...no I didn't fail the first year, instead this year I was a helper. The day involved collecting my group from the introductory lecture, making ourselves lunch and then exploring Southampton in the city challenge. This year was a little different to last, instead of taking pictures of particular places around the City we had to create a story in pictures which incorporated certain places. At first we struggled to come up with an idea for the story but we got there eventually. Continue reading →

The Arrival of the End

The Arrival of the End It has been a while since I last visited these here pages with an account of the adventures I have experienced as an MSc student in ECS. Now I find these adventures have come to end, brought about by the end of my oh so important dissertation. For those of you that don’t know, the dissertation is the super-project that separates the MSc from a normal undergraduate degree. Continue reading →

Start of the ECS journey

So, you’ve had your A-level results and had your place at ECS confirmed? You’ve got the accommodation you wanted all sorted and secured (though don’t worry unduly if you haven’t, as mine took forever to sort out, wasn’t at all what I wanted, and I still had the best time!)? And in 14 days time, you’re going to be unleashed into the world of university for the first time? If all these are you, then you’re a lucky, lucky person! I guarantee you are going to have an absolutely... Continue reading →

Back Again

A month of summer to go, and I'm back in Southampton. My time away has been eventful (in parts), but there's something irreplaceable about walking down Portswood Road in my trampling-the-unworthy boots and just thinking, "I'm back". Said beloved boots have been a little neglected while I've been away. Continue reading →

Looking back – looking forward

Now that my time in Spain is coming to an end, I thought it might be a good time to share more of the overall experience. We have a new placement student fresh out of school working with us this week. Having been officially at the lowest rung on the company ladder for over a year, the role reversal is intriguing. I've been providing support and teaching processes over the last few days and can finally see just how far I have come since I first arrived, equally naïve of what the job involved. Continue reading →
