I still find this process very hard, however also embedded other useful information into the blog to aid the points I was making. An issue that needs addressing: A BuzzFeed News analysis found that in the last 3 months of the most recent US presidential campaign, the top-performing fake election news stories on Facebook generated more engagement than the top stories from major news outlets. During this time, 20 false election stories from hoax sites generated 8,711,000 shares, reactions, and comments on Facebook (BuzzFeed, 2016). A reflection on Digital Differences

In my own blog post I read all the comments from our introductory topics and took them on board. Coming from population and geography I find the software hard to use, however this week managed to create my own video on Powtoon, as well as creating my own graph on Excel, participating in the MOOC and also adding an infra graphic from Piktochart. Having read numerous other blogs from my classmates I now feel I have a much broader understanding of the topic. Continue reading →

Digital Differences

Background: The information society is ever changing and as a result bring about new forms of inequality. Even in countries where the majority of people use smartphones, those who are economically disadvantaged lack a basic access to digital resources and so also lack the skills to use them effectively (Robinson et al., 2015). In a climate where people are expected to be digitally literate, this is very limiting when it comes to job opportunities. Continue reading →

A Reflection on my digital residency

I chose this module due to it being so far removed from my actual degree of Population and Geography as well as a challenge. Being relatively useless with technology, I have found using the various software challenging however look forward to developing my skills as the module goes on. I am used to a different style of teaching as well as essay writing and this new way of learning has been a great experience so far. Continue reading →
