Topic 5 reflection

My post this week gained multiple comments from different people. It was great to interact with others and hear their opinions. Many people on the course decided to discuss the pros and cons of the open access of academia. However Rofini and I both discussed if music should be open sourced or not. As an aspiring artist Rofini gave a great perspective, we both agreed that for artists just starting out the best way to gain a wider audience. Continue reading →

Drowning in a TIDALwave

The open access of music has becoming an increasingly popular topic in the media. Artists now have the option to stream their music on multiple platforms some which are completely free and others that charge the consumer per song or per month. “It’s my opinion that music should not be free, and my prediction is that individual artists and their labels will someday decide what an album’s price point is. I hope they don’t underestimate themselves or undervalue their art. Continue reading →

Topic 4 Reflection

Of all the UOSM2008 topics we’ve covered I have to admit this is the one I struggled with the most. The topic itself was so broad it was hard to choose which ethical issue I wanted to focus on. I focused my post on the concept of almost “too much free speech” and how this can lead to cyberbulling among school children. Shirya’s post added another element to my opinion that I had yet to consider. Social media allows us to express all of our opinions and although not all of them may be positive, there must be some limitations on what you can and can’t say. Continue reading →

Topic 3 Reflection

This topic was particularly useful for someone like myself who is currently on the hunt for my ideal placement One of the main things I learnt from reading Stuart’s blog is that LinkedIn is not the only social media resource we can use to build a professional online profile. When conducting my job search I had never considered that there was any other platform that I could use.  Like Stuart I am hoping to use the advice I’ve learnt from this topic to boost my LinkedIn profile. Building a Professional Digital Portfolio

As I learnt from the previous topic, many people have multiple online identities, one of which is often used to show the business side of their identity. The business-focused site Linkedin was created in 2003 to help people network online (mindtools, 2016). The site now has over 277 million users, with 94% of recruiters using the social media platform (Fernando, 2014). Continue reading →
