#UOSM2008 Topic 3: Reflective Summary
This weekâs topic was highly engaging, both in terms of the research it led me to read and the comments it provoked within blogs.
Researching further into the many ways of developing an online professional profile was not only interesting to read, but also served to give me useful tips as to how to better my own personal online profile on all networks I am currently engaging through.
Online articles and blogs enabled me to gain a greater understanding of the importance employers place on their potential candidatesâ online presence, both âprofessionalâ and personal (when easily accessible), something I believe is vital to appreciate when joining the competitive job market. This perspective also appeared to be shared in many of my peersâ blogs.
Learning about alternative ways to stand out from the crowd, such as reading the success story of Adam Pacittiâs âEmploy Adamâ campaign, made me consider how important it is to âjazz upâ your online CV.
This aspect of a professional online CV was discussed within my comment on Francescaâs blog (here) where I questioned whether, as the digital world continues to evolve rapidly, LinkedIn CVs and engaging with employers on social networks will no longer suffice. In the near future, will we all need outlandish, creative stunts in order to become visible and establish ourselves professionally?
Some helpful comments were shared on my blog post, such as that of Eldar, directing my attention to the blogs of Emma (unfortunately the link isnât working, apologies!) and Kimberly (here), raising the question of the viability of a video CV. Although I know it worked in the case of Adam Pacitti (whoâs video CV, I think, corresponds perfectly to the success of his billboard campaign – here ), I think it would be very industry-dependent and could not work for less creative professions.
As mentioned by Alysia, I agree that my posts over the coming weeks could be greatly improved through the use of interactivity â including more links/images will help illustrate my ideas.
