Topic 1 – Reflective Summary
Topic – Digital Residents and Visitors
Having been set the topic of exploring digital residents and visitors, initially I was a bit sceptical about how I would go about it. However upon further reading, I found it to be quite an interesting topic. I ended up watching videos online of Marc White, explaining the visitor/resident continuum. I believe that there are more categories that could be added to the continuum, especially seeing how the internet is advancing, however because it is advancing so rapidly, those categories would be likely to change frequently.
When writing my post, I thought it would be important to focus more on the digital residents and visitors aspect hence there being a lack of my own experiences in my post.
When engaging with others by commenting on their blogs and responding to their comments on mine, it gave me further insight to the topic and forced me to see the topic from a different point of view, which I found quite beneficial to understanding the topic. I think I could have been more thorough when replying to other peoples blogs, and given a larger word limit could have been more thorough in my own. This is something I hope to keep in mind for future posts and comments later on in the course.
I found the transition from natives and immigrants to residents and visitors quite interesting. Seeing as the change most likely occurred as the internet developed and advanced over the years. I think that the variables that determine residents and visitors should incorporate the age, experience of the users and what they use the internet for, however measuring this would be involve a time consuming experiment and high participation by volunteers to gain reasonable results.
In terms of improving my online profile, I have set up a LinkedIn profile, but am still to make proper use of it. I already have a twitter account which I have aggregated with my blog and could be more prevalent using the hash tag, seeing as I have looked up extra material but should post it online, this is something I will aim to do more over the coming weeks.
