‘Mission Employable’ Away Day – Friday 11th July

On Friday 11th July , our self-titled ‘Mission Employable’ team ventured outside of our usual office for a project planning day! For those of you who don’t know, Avenue campus is made up of two buildings (65 and 65a); so in actual fact it wasn’t that much of an extravaganza – we just switched buildings! However, during our trip to building 65, we had the opportunity to present all the research we had undertaken so far. It was fantastic to hear all about what the rest of ‘Mission Employable’ have been up to, especially as Charlotte and Verity’s roles differ slightly from what James and I are doing. If you want to hear more about the other members of ‘Mission Employable’, have a quick read of their posts! The following week, someone actually asked what we had been up to that day because of the amount of enthusiasm and laughter that had been coming from the room! I think that just shows how enthusiastic the ‘Mission Employable’ team is!

This week we have been starting to think about the ways in which we can tailor the Employability module content to specific disciplines. This has involved several insightful meetings with academic staff to ascertain the needs and expectations of their students. As well as meeting with academic staff from the individual disciplines within the Faculty of Humanities, we also met up with Fiona Harvey from the Centre for Innovation in Technologies and Education (CITE). CITE are working to make the university curriculum as engaging and interactive as possible through the use of up-to-date technology. This meeting was so useful and fascinating as Fiona told us about so many different online tools we could use to make our module as engaging and appealing as possible! Not only did we find out about how to make our module fun and exciting, but also about ways we can improve our own online presence.

After our meeting with Fiona, James and I rushed back to the office to try out all the different resources Fiona told us about! I think the first thing we did was set up a LinkedIn account – if you’re wondering, my LinkedIn address is www.linkedin.com/AmberNCDudley.

I think that’s all from me for now; log in tomorrow to find out more from another member of ‘Mission Employable’!
