Reflection – Topic 5

Week 5 focused on content producers making their materials freely available online. Open access was the last topic of this year’s module. I tried to make the most when designing this week’s info-graphics, ranging from my own video to an interactive vote. Patricia and I discussed various topics, such as identifying reliable online information and the trouble newspaper companies are currently facing. Continue reading →

Availability to all – Open access

I would like to start off this week’s blog by defining open access and comparing its advantages and disadvantages. http://www.powtoon.com/embed/ekieo8m537I/ As a student, I am obviously biased towards the idea of open access. This is because I don’t want to pay for information and it would benefit myself and my peers. However, there are two sides to every story of which I am going to weigh up in this blog post. Reflection- Topic 4

Created via: Tailor Brands   Topic 4 focused on one ethical related issue of social media. I decided to comment on Ellie´s and Rachel’s blog this week, as both of their work took a completely different approach towards the assignment compared to mine.  I focused on general privacy concerns associated with the internet, whereas Ellie focused on the psychological element by introducing “social comparisons” created via social media sites such as Instagram. Privacy – A luxury the Internet cannot provide

Self-produced: Tagul I am going to start this blog with a daunting quote made by Eric Schmidt the CEO of Google: With your permission, you give us more information about you, about your friends, and we can improve the quality of our searches. We don’t need you to type at all. We know where you are. We know where you’ve been. We can more or less know what you’re thinking about. Continue reading →

Reflection- Topic 3

This week’s topic focused on the development of employability profiles. Cherie´s blog evolved around the concept of online branding, and how it assists in creating authentic profiles. Her research has shown that you are more inclined to stay professional, as you are restricted on the content you can display. As a result, it limits the probability of impacting your career path negatively. Continue reading →

Developing an Online Employability Profile

This week’s blog will focus on the opportunities and challenges of establishing a professional online identity and how to deal with online criticism. As discussed in my previous blog post, it is best to accept that almost everyone has an online identity. This means that people can and will find information about you on the web. You can however, use this knowledge to your advantage! How? You can start by creating an airtight reputation when promoting yourself online. Continue reading →

Reflection Topic 2

In my opinion I found this weeks topic more difficult to write about. The reason for this is that the angle of discussion regarding multiple identities can be introduced in so many different ways. My blog for example highlighted the importance of how the creation of digital footprints can be a representation of who you are. Ellie focused her blog from a marketing perspective. She explained the concept of targeted advertising by sharing her Facebook newsfeed of a Missguided advert. Continue reading →

Topic 1: Reflection

I am very thankful that we were given a trail week for this module, as it allowed me to familiarise myself with WordPress. This week’s topics allowed everyone to find out and think about their own level of engagement with the internet. It was interesting to read other students thoughts of where they saw themselves on the spectrum between visitors and residents. Continue reading →

Web users: Digital Visitors and Residents ? My own experience

What is the difference between  digital visitors and residents? The main distinction that should be remembered is that it involves the level of engagement a person has with the virtual world. In simple terms, visitors have low levels of engagement meaning that they do not wish to express themselves in the online culture, whereas residents seek out to voice their opinion, by sharing and commenting their thoughts while being active online.
