Reflection on Topic 2

For Topic 2, we were asked to write about online identity, and the arguments about having more than one. Initially, I wasn’t aware it was even possible to have multiple but after research I was becoming more swayed to the argument of for having more than one multiple identity. Reflection – Too Two-Faced to Face?

It’s clear that this is a topic that divides not only personalities, but opinions. At the outset, I was quite clear in my belief that the sense of two-facedness in having more than one online identity is not worth the gain, but what I learned during the writing process and from my colleagues’ own posts and comments has helped give me a more balanced view of the matter. Reflection of Topic 2

The online identity issue is not unfamiliar to me. As a “native speaker” of the internet, I also played the different role on the internet for a long time. l use my authentic identity on Facebook since I need to communicate with my real life friend. But when I play online games, I definitely use a nickname to protect my personal information from strangers. Reflective Summary: Topic 2 – Advantages & Dangers of Multiple Identities

Through my research into this topic, followed by my blog post and subsequent reading of the posts of my peers, I have been given an insight into the vast advantages, as well as the dangers of having multiple online identities. Arthur’s post showed an excellent real world example of multiple online identities being kept up online. Keeping the title simple, Topic 2 Reflection

From reading blogs of peers, my knowledge on the consequences of having multiple online identities certainly strengthened. I’ll jump straight into it. Part of the topic I omitted was the concept of anonymity. Reflection of Topic 2

Multiple identities online can raise alarm bells when people first consider it due to the popularization of the MTV show Catfish (brought up in many others blogs). Also I feel it could have the stigma it has as it is generally brought up in a negative light for example with new laws against internet “trolls”. Yet, multiple identities, if used correctly can be a useful tool for separating ones social life from their professional life. Continue reading →

There was a variety of ideas to discuss regarding multiple online identities, but Davina’s post stuck out to me as she shared a video that explained the fact our online identities just represent a “highlight” of our actual identities. Reflection: Topic 2

400 words to discuss the benefits and drawbacks of having multiple online identities proved to be too few. I took a relatively broad approach to this topic, attempting to identify many points for both sides of the argument. I thought this approach would allow me to cover all the key points and issues surrounding online identity, but I was completely wrong. After reading many of my peers’ blogs, I found I had only scratched the surface with this topic and how much I had left untouched. Continue reading →

Topic 2 Summary #UOSM2033

The subject matter of Topic 2 was familiar to me before starting the this course but this not did stop me from wanting to learn more and I found using WordPress a marvelous way of sharing my first-hand experience with others. I hope I have shown an improvement from my first blog (especially in my use of media). Forming One Identity?

We all possess multiple online identities. And I went into this topic thinking very much negatively, thinking of the extremes like catfishing and how people have the ability to play and toy with other peoples lives. And that was very much reflected in my post. Alice’s  comment on my post really highlighted that I hadn’t really given a chance to the positives that multiple online identities can have. Reflective Summary: Who are we online?

Before I started to research into the topic, I already had an opinion on online identities. I found the topic more relatable in today’s society than last week. For example, the idea of ‘catfishing’ was one that I saw mentioned in the majority of blog posts that I read. Reflection: Who do you think I am?

Topic two discussed the concept of multiple identities online. This is a topic of interest for me particularly now that I am job searching and am more aware of the identity in which I am portraying online. Something which I had expressed in my blog was the issue of needing to stay professional even on personal accounts.
