[Reflection on Topic 2]

I’d say the views towards the practice of multiple online identities are diversified. Unlike the previous topic, I think this topic involves substantially a broader scope of concepts. So, most of the posts I read discussed about different aspects of ‘online identities’. In his post here, Issac used a word I found really intriguing – “convenience”. This idea resonates with me. I realized that having multiple online identities is a form of escapism for users as it allows them to express themselves differently in various social platforms. Reflecting on the topic of digital identity in relation to the trails that it leaves behind, it is understandable why many may prefer the option of managing multiple personas just to remain anonymous online. However, I’ve noticed that many who felt the need to express themselves on different accounts are those who just afraid of revealing too much information on one account. After reading a few of my friend’s blog, I came to realized that most of us owns more than just one online identity. Because of the different persona we want to portray for different purposes like networking or for communications. Reflective Summary: One or Multiple?

Google Image After reading through the posts written by my classmates and even the UK students, I realized that there are more to the issue than meets the eyes. There are mixed thoughts across the board on whether or not to have a single or multiple online identities. Other than the aspect of social media accounts, people are also concerned about privacy regarding sensitive issues and identity thief. Topic 2 – Reflection

  What I’ve gathered from reading my classmates’ posts have got me thinking if multiple identities are an inevitable occurrence. Are fake identities really necessary in exchange for privacy? If having two or more identities is now a norm, is Mark Zuckerberg’s quote “Having two identities for yourself is an example of a lack of integrity” still relevant?
