Hazel posted a video in her blog that made me realise how people’s online identity were mostly anonymous in the past, and it changed to an online identity that shares about personal life experiences now. While my focus was on how having multiple online identities may influence your professional and personal lives, others like Xin Hui, Adelene and Wan Sia brought up issues of cyber bullying, cyber crimes and identity theft as a result of having multiple online identities. At the beginning of the chapter, I thought I already had a clear picture of what it means to have multiple online identities. However, upon further readings, I realised I merely knew the tip of the iceberg. I have found out that having multiple online identities does not just mean having separate accounts for social media. After browsing several classmates’ blog posts, it is evident that the majority agree that the main reason for having several online identities is to differentiate between work and play. I’d say the views towards the practice of multiple online identities are diversified. Unlike the previous topic, I think this topic involves substantially a broader scope of concepts. So, most of the posts I read discussed about different aspects of ‘online identities’. In his post here, Issac used a word I found really intriguing – “convenience”. This idea resonates with me.
