After reading through my colleagues’ post, I realized that there are many pros and cons for having more than one online identity. Personally, I think having multiple online identities are not an issue as long as we have time to manage it. As for Luna’s blog, having multiple online identities are important in job hunting to marketing our skills set to potential employers. This week, we talked about single and multiple online identity as well as their benefits and drawbacks. I have also learned how to use PowToon to create interesting and fun animated videos. Based on my comment and what I have read on Jian Wen’s blog, I have learned that multiple identities can be viewed as a good or bad motive. This motive will thus determine whether the person is authentic or not. Also, pseudonyms are not necessary a bad thing like what I had imagined before. Continue reading →

However, Shi Ming’s comment on my blog made me sat down and think through the kind of challenges I come across especially since there are particular profiles that I frequent more often than the others. Prior to this topic, I have always believed that it is important to have multiple identities in order to keep personal and professional apart. After reading my peers’ blogs, both Shih Ying and Marianne have highlighted the point that employers are tracking employees’ social media and have dealt disciplinary actions onto employees due to certain misconduct online. I decided to go with Multiple Online Identities approach since 3 years ago, this is because I felt like there is no privacy and security. Thus I made another Facebook and Instagram account for privacy and professionalism. Internet Crimes has been increasing and job hiring is relying more and more upon on one’s internet identity, thus, if you have many personae and interests and is not willing to be limited to one idea like me, then it is better to have more than one personalities.
