Reflective Summary: The Issue of “Respect”

It was a rather insightful read of the various issues mentioned by my peers. This topic is really helpful for us as future marketers as it guides us on our online behaviours and future marketing campaigns. Some issues mentioned allowed me to expand my topic on ‘Respect’ into wider aspects. One of them is Maureen’s issue on consent. I expanded the issue to businesses where companies sell our personal information to third parties without our permission. Continue reading →

Reflection | Topic 4

With the world continuously getting more digitised, it is difficult to not see social media being used in businesses and educational institutions. However, as with many things, social media has its benefits and shortcomings. The ethical issues that have been raised by the educational or business use of social media are plenty, but I will focus on what I’ve learnt in this topic; mainly privacy infringement from Zaidhan’s article, cyberbullying from mine, and astroturfing from Teresa’s. Reflection: Ethics

With ethics being an umbrella topic provides great room for discussion. It was interesting to read on others’ concept of what is deemed ethical or not. As ethics are developed upon personal beliefs, cultures, upbringing etc; it is likely that I may have some slight disagreement with my peers. Xinlin’s post on media manipulation was one which I disagreed on. The fact that Victoria’s Secret’s perfect body campaign warrants public denigration is uncertain to me. Continue reading →

Reflections on “Ethics”

In my post, I addressed how a business use of social media can aggravate unethical behaviour. Own Image But reading Jim’s post introduced another perspective. He reminded me that a director, or specifically, the job role itself has its own “ethics” too. He is accountable to the shareholders. For him, not earning profit may be unethical. Because he did not fulfil his promise to the shareholders. But for us (the customer), we view the ‘profit-earning’ mindset as a sabotage. Continue reading →
