Topic 4: Relection

This topic has been rather interesting mainly because there are many different ethical issues that my classmates and I have discussed. On Vivian’s blog, she too mentioned the issue of privacy but focused on identity theft instead. Although the term identity thief is not new to me, it did not occur to me that there are many cases of such and the extent of which its negative complication can bring about to individuals. Topic 4 Reflection

After reading through most of the other blog posts, I feel that there are patches of grey areas in ethics. (Soelf-Made)   One interesting case in Maureen’s Blog is Sammy Rhode’s case. Which raises the first question: Where do we draw the line between ‘Imitation’ and ‘Inspiration’?       Examples of Sammy Rhode can be found in the business world. Take Instagram for example. Topic 4: Reflective Summary on Ethical Issues on Social Media

[Source: Created using Piktochart] After reading my peers’ blogs and doing much research on the various ethical issues raised by educational or business use of social media, I realized that there are countless unethical issues around the globe. As seen in Eugene’s post, there are firms worldwide fabricating information in order to defame their competitors. I conducted my own research out of curiosity and found out that Samsung hired online critics to attack HTC as shown here. Continue reading →

Reflection 4 – Ethical issue of social media

My comment in Valerie’s post (115 words) My comment in Karise’s post (111 words) It has been an interesting journey in learning from each different perspective of one’s take of ethical issues or misconduct in business use of social media. Social media has been such a prevalent and common part of our lives that I never did question their methods of obtaining personal information and how they make use of said information. |Topic 4| Reflection #MANG2049

I am glad we finally got a topic that allows us to explore and concentrate on different issues from each other! I feel that with regards to privacy, misuse of personal data as raised by Zaidhan’s post and YongYou in his video as well as identify thefts are the most prevalent and harmful issues with regards to social media ethics. Dayna raised the problem of identity theft in a Human Resource(HR) recruitment perspective. Continue reading →

Reflection on Topic 4: Ethical Issues on the use of social media #MANG2049

As mentioned in my post for Topic 4, I feel that privacy is an important ethical issue that needs to be highlighted for companies and individuals to take note. As the Internet is widely used by individuals all around the world, data sharing is especially common and cyber footprints are left behind. This leads to individuals having their privacy exposed to private companies or to hackers who would use their personal information to their own benefits. Continue reading →

Reflection On Topic 4: Blurred Lines Between Ethical Use Of Social Media

Credits: businessnewsdaily.com Honestly, I found topic 4’s question to be rather heavy. As the general topic seems pretty broad, it was indeed a different experience as we all got to write from different aspects about ethical issues. Differing from what I covered in my post, Gin wrote about the ethical issue of A/B testing among companies and their consumers. In 2012, there was uproar as Facebook tweaked the algorithm for an experiment on users without consent. Continue reading →

Topic 3: Observe ethics.

Source Social media as an educational tool today is beneficial as such it pulls together students into one platform to facilitate learning, and its versatility in incorporating multimedia like powerpoint and videos altogether make learning very cohesive. Educational use of social media has been increasing with the benefits it brings. This module is a good example of educational use through social media like blogs and Youtube; I enjoyed it very much as I don’t need to go to school. Continue reading →

“The closer you look, the less you’ll see”

From eye-catching titles to biased reviews of products and services, the nature of social media easily involves ethical issues. The public often look to the Web for accurate and up-to-date information, however, the information is often being “packaged” in a certain way and is inaccurate. According to statisca.com, there are 2.34billion social users worldwide, which is about 32% of the entire population. Continue reading →
