Topic 4 (Reflection): The online world needs ethics too

The blogs written by my peers explored the different ethical issues in both business and educational perspectives. Business Context In Topic 3, I talked about how social hiring is turning into a norm. I learned from Norman that discrimination existed through e-screening. Unobtainable information (political views and interests etc) can be extracted from social profiles that somewhat affect employers’ decisions. Continue reading →

Reflection: Social Media Ethical Issues

Good afternoon! Today’s post will summarize what I have learnt about ethical issues and how it is related to other topics. Social media has the capacity to amuse, inspire and to mobilize support, giving a voice to excluded and powerless people. However, gossip, arguments and abuse are some pitfalls. The questions still remains; what is the balance between the right to free speech and the limits of abuse? (The Guardian) This leads to an important issue of online ethics. Continue reading →

Reflection – Topic 4

At the start of the topic. I thought that infringing our privacy via social media was the most unethical thing businesses were doing. However, upon reading my friend’s blogs. They brought up many valid points that have soon made me realise otherwise. In Klarissa’s blog, she mentioned the use of user generated content (UGC). There have been cases where organisations exploit the use of UGC whereby they do not give credit to the original creator. Continue reading →

Reflection: Ethics

Credit: Merriam-Webster’s Learner’s Dictionary There are many ways a company can make use of social media to facilitate their business. Nonetheless, not every method is ethical. Social media marketing, as I mentioned in my previous post, is only ethical if the review is truthful and when the influencers make it known that they are sponsored. However, this is not the only rule when it comes to the game of social media for businesses. Continue reading →

Topic 4 : R E F L E C T I O N

[ SOURCE : Image by me] This topic on social media ethics was an eye opener! Never did I imagine the number of problems that can arise from unethical use of social media. With the ease and effectiveness of social media, many companies have adopt social media marketing. However, are they doing it right? After reading various blog posts from my classmates, I was able to garner more insights on social media ethics. Klarissa mentioned User Generated Content (UGC) in her post. Continue reading →

Topic 4: Reflective Summary

(Credits: Localseopackage) After reading some of my friend’s blog on topic 4, I realized that they are actually a lot of ethical issues raised by the use of social media, for business as well as for educational purposes. Social media entices people to post personal information online, however we are in control of the information we want to post and we should be responsible of any consequences. That being said, data sharing is inevitable. Continue reading →

Topic 4: Relection

This topic has been rather interesting mainly because there are many different ethical issues that my classmates and I have discussed. On Vivian’s blog, she too mentioned the issue of privacy but focused on identity theft instead. Although the term identity thief is not new to me, it did not occur to me that there are many cases of such and the extent of which its negative complication can bring about to individuals. Continue reading →

Topic 4 Reflection

After reading through most of the other blog posts, I feel that there are patches of grey areas in ethics. (Soelf-Made)   One interesting case in Maureen’s Blog is Sammy Rhode’s case. Which raises the first question: Where do we draw the line between ‘Imitation’ and ‘Inspiration’?       Examples of Sammy Rhode can be found in the business world. Take Instagram for example. Continue reading →

Topic 4: Reflective Summary on Ethical Issues on Social Media

[Source: Created using Piktochart] After reading my peers’ blogs and doing much research on the various ethical issues raised by educational or business use of social media, I realized that there are countless unethical issues around the globe. As seen in Eugene’s post, there are firms worldwide fabricating information in order to defame their competitors. I conducted my own research out of curiosity and found out that Samsung hired online critics to attack HTC as shown here. Continue reading →

Reflection 4 – Ethical issue of social media

My comment in Valerie’s post (115 words) My comment in Karise’s post (111 words) It has been an interesting journey in learning from each different perspective of one’s take of ethical issues or misconduct in business use of social media. Social media has been such a prevalent and common part of our lives that I never did question their methods of obtaining personal information and how they make use of said information.
