pro and cons of online identities

Identity is a complete set of characteristics that define you.  Consist of partial identity, profile, and persona that’s referred by identifiers. Internet usage as a space evolve over the year. From passive approach, where we use internet to gain information to interactive approach, where we collaborate. Our Online Identity

In this time period where our lives are largely tied to online interactions, digital identity has become an issue. Should we maintain anonymity online or ensure authenticity? And whichever one we choose, can we enforce that? And for either of the two camps, depending how you choose to look at it… Is it really all bad? Or are there two sides to the coin? The proliferation of social media technology has driven the digital space towards an emergence of new landscape. Beyond a consumer-targeted space, we see the opportunities for individuals to create online identities and socialize behind their computers. One may also create multiple identities such as using fake or anonymous names. And these multiple identities exist online as an individual’s persona even if an individual goes offline. The online identity represents you, through a collective of characteristics and interactions formed with your digital footprints. (Picture Source: Simply Zesty, 2012) Online identities, the plural, arise when a level of secrecy is wanted. It gives you full control of the information you disclose, where you can be different personas on different platforms.
