I am across an interesting article the other day which, I fear, has little to do with my thesis, but I was captivated and intrigued by it. It recorded and experiment exploring storytelling genres, run by sociologists. So, why are sociologists looking at story? Centre for Global Englishes seminar: “English as a Lingua Franca in Asia: Suggestions for ELT/ELF Policy and Pedagogy”

The next Centre for Global Englishes (CGE) seminar will take place on Wednesday 22nd April 2015 from 5:00 – 6:30pm in Lecture Theatre C, Building 65, Avenue Campus. New MOOC on ‘Dyslexia and language teaching’ to be launched

Lancaster University is launching a new four-week MOOC on ‘Dyslexia and language teaching’, which will run from 20 April – 17 May 2015. Aimed at English language teachers, teachers of modern languages, teacher trainers, educators and trainee teachers, the course will enable its participants to reflect on how they can cater for the needs of students with dyslexia in the foreign/second language classroom. Cantores in Germany

The concert venue at LĂŒdenscheid Cantores Michaelis, the University of Southampton choral scholars, spent four days in the German town of LĂŒdenscheid and performed two concerts there and in the nearby town of Herford. Both towns are located near to the Rhine river in Western Germany and are full of lots of lovely German churches and ‘Kneipen’ – traditional German pubs. Continue reading →

EMMA – multilingual access to European MOOCs

The EMMA (European Multiple MOOC Aggregator) project team has recently published its March 2015 newsletter, providing an update on developments on the EMMA project, including a new round of MOOCs launched in February, and updates to the platform. The EMMA initiative is a 30 month pilot project supported by the EU, aiming to provide a system for the online delivery of MOOCs in multiple languages from different European universities. It sounds like I missed a blinder, but I didn’t even hear about it until it was on. Roll on the publication of any proceedings or papers.
