Mike has recently retired after a long and distinguished career as Professor of French at the University of Southampton. He has published widely in the area of French Studies and more recently in the field of languages in times of conflict and war. The call for papers for the 8th biennial joint LLAS, UCML and AULC conference is now open. The event, entitled ‘Frameworks for Collaboration and Multilingualism’ will take place at the University of Warwick on 6-7 July 2016. eLearning Symposium – Humans and the machine

The 11th LLAS eLearning Symposium was held on January 21-22 at the University of Southampton. The Centre for Languages, Linguistics and Area Studies (LLAS) is part of Modern Languages at Southampton, and this annual event has become an established fixture for the language-teaching community to come together and share their work. LLAS (Centre for Languages, Linguistics and Area Studies) in Modern Languages at Southampton has recently published a free, open access ebook: “10 Years of the LLAS elearning symposium: case studies in good practice”. ICT and Languages Conference a success!

Last weekend’s ICT and Languages Conference 2015, hosted by the Centre for Languages, Linguistics and Area Studies (LLAS) team at the University of Southampton on 28th February and 1st March was a great success! The conference, aimed at teachers of languages in schools, focused on technology and pedagogy of language teaching in primary and secondary schools, and attracted 60 delegates from around the country. This is the fifth annual conference on this topic to be held at Southampton. Continue reading →
