TNS Annual Lecture: “Transnationalized Trajectories: Good Nation and Good Citizenship in East Asian School Curricula and Textbooks”

The TNS Annual Lecture will take place at 6pm on Wednesday 24th April in Lecture Theatre C at Avenue Campus. Workshop on digital tools in language learning research

The Centre for Applied Language Research ran a successful half day workshop at Avenue Campus on Wednesday 10 April, introducing c50 PGR students and other interested researchers to a range of digital tools which can support  the study of informal language learning during residence abroad. First of all, Kevin McManus and Nicole Tracy-Ventura (Southampton) gave a demonstration of CHILDES programs and their uses in coding and analysing transcripts of L2 learner talk. Continue reading →

The Institute for Language and Culture blogging site, developed by Modern Languages at the University of Southampton, is now live. Designed to highlight current research in Modern Languages, the site has space for research stories, media content arising from research activities, and links to sites that have collected research materials. British Academy report on ‘Multilingual Britain’

The British Academy has recently published its latest report entitled ‘Multilingual Britain’, produced in cooperation with Cumberland Lodge. The report discusses the role of multilingualism in the UK as an asset and resource that is not fully valued, and is one of a series of publications by the British Academy on language issues within the UK.
