Learn English with the BBC World Service

The BBC World Service offers a whole range of English language learning materials online. Learning English pages contain, grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation activities alongside interactive quizzes, news and current affairs and the site’s long-lived soap cartoon, Flat Mates, which lets the audience decide the story-line. DHDL update

The equipment has now been installed for the Digital Humanities Distributed Lab. Two existing lab spaces at Avenue have been revamped. Digital Humanities Lab 1 (65/1085) has 9 imacs setup for time based media creation and editing. There is also a wall mounted screen and an apple TV to allow sharing of content from the imacs and other apple devices. Choose from one of ten languages and learn a language at lunch-time! Staff and students can choose from Arabic Beginners, Classical Greek Beginners, Dutch Beginners, French Beginners, German Beginners, Italian Beginners, Japanese Beginners, Mandarin Chinese Beginners, Portuguese Beginners and Spanish Beginners. Half a million website visits!

At 1.30pm on Tuesday July 3rd a website created by the eLanguages team in Modern Languages received its 500,000th visit. ‘Prepare for Success’ (www.prepareforsuccess.org.uk) is a website of free interactive learning resources for international students planning to study at any UK university or college. It is also being used extensively by receiving institutions in the UK, as well as by institutions overseas. Continue reading →
