Take Two – An Overview

13 days ago I hadn’t given the concepts of Online Security, Privacy and Identity any serious thought. Needless to say my opinions have evolved during this time.

Having read the comments in Andy Sugden’s blog (Titled: Online Identity or Online Identities?) one key point I missed out with regards to having an Online Identity is the ability to have a unique persona, a fresh start if you will. The parallels Mr Sugden drew with Facebook and Online Gaming Worlds such as World of Warcraft made me think twice about my own Online Identity. I do take my Online gaming Identity for granted. I have made many good friends that I wouldn’t have met IRL and consequently I probably wouldn’t have made such good relationships over Facebook and other forms of social media.

But of course the issues I brought up in my original post remain true. I am a strong believer that we must grow out of this social media world, where we have to step out of a world dictated by the number of Facebook ‘likes’ and Twitter ‘followers’ we have. I found a powerful video which I’d like to share:

I am also grateful for the comments from Din211. In hindsight, Online Hacking and Idenity Theft exists, but if you keep a level head the chances of you falling victim to an attack is very slim. The Internet is a wonderful resource but like everything in life, too much of a good thing can do more harm than good.
