Reflection on topic 1: what I have learnt and what I can do better to improve

In the past week, the class have evaluated the impact of digital differences on how people interact with the Web. After reading classmates’ posts, I have gained deeper understanding and further thoughts about the topic. In Aaron’s blog post, he discuss the internet usage divergence for different genders. He points out that men are more likely to use internet to play online games, watch movies, or engaging in forums. In contrast, women spend most of time online to do online shopping. Are we Humans or Are we Surfers? (Reflections on Topic 1)

(Time to ponder) It’s an irony how the Internet has integrated the world, yet have caused social degradation in reality, especially amongst the younger generation. Internet Addiction can reach up to as high as 8.2% in USA/Europe (BrandonGaille.com, 2017). Misunderstanding & Reflection

By reading through other colleagues’ blog posts, I realized that I probably misunderstood the concept of “digital differences”, which should be the difference in peoples’ accessibility to digital technology and therefore the consequences caused by it. From reading Aaron’s post, I have gained more insights on learning online, through having a learning hierarchy by applying Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. Continue reading →

Topic 1 : A Reflection On The Digital Divide

The blog posts of namely, Jennifer Lee, Jerrom Tan and Shanelle Chong have allowed me to grow my understanding of the topic. I had previously adopted a narrow view and perspective on the causes of digital differences. In my first post, I attributed the digital divide to socio-economic factors. Of which, the individual plays an instrumental role in bridging the digital divide. Continue reading →

Reflection: Topic 1 – Thoughts on digital difference

Souce: Original Content Thoughts on Digital Difference When I read my colleague’s post, I have gained more understanding from the different perspective of digital differences. Social privilege gives us the opportunity to access to internet easily, however, what matters most is the motivation you have for learning. Quoting from Alicia’s blog: Which I strongly agree with what Alicia had pointed out where age should not be a limiting factor for someone to learn. Continue reading →

My Journey to Understanding Digital Differences…

Before I continue on this post, I would like to thank the following contributors: Luna and Pearl, for taking their time to look through my previous post and giving me relevant feedback and comments regarding digital differences. Click to view slideshow. (Self produced slides, 2017) Luna’s comment in particular, left me to think of digital differences as differences in education system between developed countries, particularly Taiwan and Singapore.
