General Feedback on Topic 2

To get into a higher marking band next time, focus on using the visuals (and the text) to add depth rather than simply describe content. For example, depth can be added by:

  • summarising the views of others
  • comparing and contrasting two different positions on a subject from a range of sources
  • making specific relevant connections between different topics covered on the course
  • thinking about the issue from the viewpoint of a marketer as well as a consumer
  • specifying the learning you’ve achieved from different sources and reflecting on why that was the case

An average answer draws upon a government source when checking out a potential fake news item. A good answer would add depth by pointing out that this approach is not foolproof, because governments themselves (some more than others of course) can manipulate the facts to suit their purpose…

It was also good to see infographics used for displaying greater depth of research, for example to highlight key points learned from the work of other students, rather than just describing something to avoid the word limit. Good examples of this from the group by Yaamanni Kasavan  and Adriel Li

And Bernard Low made great use of Powtoon to summarise different aspects of the learning through this topic. (Good to see more Powtoons coming through this time too)

We would like to see much more evidence of contributions to and specific learning from the MOOC discussions. Some of you are doing this very well, and benefiting accordingly…
