Review on Topic 1: “Digital Resident” VS “Digital Visitor”

It was a thought-provoking process to read my classmates’ posts. Especially after reading Luna’s and Jasmine’s posts, I find myself better able to understand myself with their visual examples, knowing which category I fall into. Digging deeper, their posts made me wonder about the pitfalls of being an extreme Digital Visitor or Resident. Continue reading →

GOOD BYE Topic 1? – A Reflective Summary by Kai

 – This marks the end of Topic 1 and the start of a new topic. – Having read through most of classmates’ blog posts about Topic 1, i have come to a conclusion that the majority of us can be considered digital ‘residents’. We have social media accounts like instagram, twitter and facebook. We also leave ‘traces’ behind and that little bit of information might do us harm. Continue reading →

Topic 1 – Reflective Summary

It was really interesting reading everybody’s post on the discussion between Resident and Visitor and although some of the ones that I have read are a tad different from the rest, they still boil down to agreeing on the same point; The classification of whether a person is a Resident or a Visitor depends on the person’s own contextual needs! Prensky started this classification to differentiate web users mainly on age and have been further modified by White & Cornu, resulting it... Continue reading →

Topic 1 – Reflective Summary: “Digital Visitors” V.S. “Digital Residents”

Prior to being exposed to this topic, I did not even know anything about the categorization and emphasis of being labelled as “Digital Visitors” or “Digital Residents”. Little did I know that by thinking this way, I would fail to understand the characteristics of the “Digital Immigrants” and neglect them. Continue reading →

TOPIC 1: Reflective Summary

Honestly speaking, when the topic was first thrown at me, I totally had no idea on what was it about and I thought that it will be very stale to be writing on this. Never did I know that this module would enlighten me so much on human being so absorbed into technology. Additionally, after reading through most of my classmates’ blog posts about “Digital Visitors” and “Digital Residents”, I realized that it have increased my knowledge as they have explained in-depth about it. Topic One – Reflection

Firstly, I would like to thank Jue Yin and Luna for their constructive comments. I have read both of their blog post and they have given me deeper insights. I have also reached out to other classmate’s blog and can conclude that Digital “Visitor” and Digital “Resident” a better alternative distinction to that of digital “native”/ digital “immigrant” when classifying how people use the Internet. Topic 1 – Reflective Summary

After reading through my colleagues’ blog posts, questions start popping up in my mind, stringing thoughts that were previously off my mind. As I understand deeper and further from the post on Emilia’s wordpress, I began thinking about various factors like “How distinct are ‘residents’ from ‘visitors’ despite the similarities in the usage of the internet?”, “To what extent could they be similar?”. Review on Topic 1: Digital Resident VS Digital Visitor

It is interesting to know Joey‘s and Crystal‘s views on Digital Resident and Digital Visitor. There is no definite black and white sides to being a Resident or a Visitor and Crystal has confirmed my thoughts by sharing information on the Visitors and Residents Continuum. An individual can be a Visitor and a Resident at the same time because the relationship between the two is more progressive than contrasting. Continue reading →
