Southampton Language Opportunity offers new intensive courses

The next series of intensive language courses for the Southampton Language Opportunity will take place from 11th-15th April 2016. Spaces still remain for Portuguese 1a. The Southampton Language Opportunity offers University of Southampton students the chance to learn a new language free of charge alongside their degree. Modern Languages PhD student receives British Council Assessment Research Award

Modern Languages PhD student, Maria Georgina Fernandez Sesma, has been successful in obtaining this year’s British Council Assessment Research Award. Maria is currently in the second year of her PhD and is researching the topic: ‘Blended Learning: Assessing EFL Teachers and Students’ Use of and Perceptions toward Learning Technology’, under the supervision of Dr Ying Zheng. Modern Languages PhD student wins award for best-researched poster

Modern Languages PhD student Sahar Alzahrani received an award for the best-researched poster at the Learner Autonomy Special Interest Group (LASIG) Conference 2016 in Antwerp, Belgium, which took place from 3-4 March 2016. Next CLLEAR seminar: “Experiencing master’s dissertation supervision: two supervisors’ perspectives”

The next Centre for Linguistics, Language Education and Acquisition Research (CLLEAR) seminar will take place on Wednesday 16th March 2016 from 4:00-6:00pm in Lecture Theatre C, Building 65, Avenue Campus. Modern Languages writer co-authors new book

Carmen Martín de León (writer) from Modern Languages at Southampton and Tilman Sánchez-Elsner (illustrator) from the Faculty of Medicine have co-authored “El papel higiénico y otros asuntos de suma importancia”, the first book of the series “El Mundo de Custodio”, Editorial Verbum. Custodio is an apothecary with a big family to feed, a challenge he undertakes during the Spanish “Transición” with a “velvet fist in an iron glove”. Continue reading →
