Institute for Language and Culture symposium tomorrow

The Institute for Language and Culture (ILC) in Modern Languages at the University of Southampton is hosting its one-day symposium on ‘New Directions for Research in Language and Culture’ tomorrow, Wednesday 6 November 2013. Modern Languages Year 12 Autumn Study Day

Forty potential future Modern Languages students will be visiting the University’s Avenue Campus on Tuesday 5th November 2013 for the Year 12 Autumn Study Day. The event is designed for students who are thinking about studying languages at university. There are sessions on cultural topics, grammar and speaking in French, German or Spanish, as well as the chance to do an introductory session in another language (such as Chinese or Portuguese). Modern Languages students in demand

According to recent statistics from the annual DLHE (Destination of Leavers of Higher Education) survey of former students six months after graduation, Modern Languages and other Humanities graduates are increasingly successful in finding work after their studies at the University of Southampton. The latest survey (of over 2,000 Humanities graduates) revealed that the vast majority of former students have found work or are involved in further study shortly after leaving Southampton. Inaugural Lecture of Professor Marion Demossier on 6th November

Professor Marion Demossier will be giving her Inaugural Lecture on Wednesday 6th November at 6pm in Lecture Theatre A, Building 65, Avenue Campus, University of Southampton. The lecture is entitled ‘Changing Places. The taste of Heritage in Burgundy’ and will be chaired by Professor Ullrick Kockel from the University of Ulster. Transnational Stories workshop today

The next TNS workshop will take place today, Wednesday 16th October, at 4.00pm-7.00pm at the University’s Avenue Campus, Building 65, Room 1145. Professor Marion Demossier will present her research on ‘Following Grands Crus: Global Markets and Wine’, and Professor Laura Lewis on ‘Transnational Subjectivities among Young Adult US African descent Mexicans’.
