Free online videos for English language teachers’ professional development

Modern Languages lecturer, Dr Julia Hüttner, has recently completed a project funded by the Higher Education Academy to produce a series of lesson recordings, with 16-18 year olds at a sixth form college in Hampshire and also of classes with international students at the University of Southampton. The videos, which include English language lessons and interviews with the classroom teachers, aim to help new English language teachers to gain a unique insight into their chosen profession. British Council report on UK language needs

On 20 November the British Council launched a report entitled ‘Languages for the Future: Which Languages the UK Needs and Why’, identifying Spanish, Arabic, French, Mandarin Chinese, German, Portuguese, Italian, Russian, Turkish and Japanese as the languages most vital to the UK over the next 20 years. Modern Languages welcomes visitors from Tomsk Polytechnic University

Following a visit this time last year from a group of young researchers and academics from Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU) in Siberia, Modern Languages is pleased to welcome a further group who are participating in an intensive English language course, ‘Teaching and learning through the medium of English’, from Monday 11th November to Friday 22nd November 2013.
