Professor Ute Smit, currently visiting from the University of Vienna, will be delivering a workshop on Friday 21st February 2014 in Room 1097, Building 65, Avenue Campus on “Methodological issues in longitudinal ELF research: Focus on educational settings”. The workshop is aimed primarily at PhD students, but is also open to other interested researchers. This workshop follows Professor Smit’s talk as part of the CLLEAR/CGE series yesterday. The Phoenix world cinema programme

Students and staff with an interest in modern languages and world cinema may be interested in the second semester programme of The Phoenix, Southampton’s long established film society, showing the best of world cinema. Films are screened weekly in the Southampton University Students’ Union Films Cinema, with English subtitles. The Catalan film, Fenix 11.23 (Joel Joan and Sergi Lara, 2012) is being screened tonight, Wednesday 19th February 2014, at 7.30pm. Continue reading →

The Centre for Linguistics, Language Education and Acquisition Research (CLLEAR) and the Centre for Global Englishes (CGE) are running a joint seminar on Wednesday 19th February at 5pm in Lecture Theatre C, Avenue Campus, University of Southampton. The seminar is entitled: ‘English-medium education in multilingual university settings: A sociolinguistic examination of interactive explaining in the classroom’ and will be presented by Professor Ute Smit from the University of Vienna.
