‘Mexico Today’ Study Day next week

A one-day cultural event entitled ‘Mexico Today’ will be taking place on Saturday 17 May 2014 from 10am-4pm at the University of Southampton’s Avenue Campus. The event will consist of a series of short talks led by experts from within Modern Languages at Southampton, exploring in particular the ways that contemporary migration and cultural imports impact on Mexico today. ‘The Year of Jubilee’ – A performance by the University of Southampton community choir this Saturday

A number of staff from Modern Languages at the University of Southampton are taking part in the University community choir’s performance, this Saturday 3rd May, of ‘The Year of Jubilee’, at St Michael’s Church in Bugle Street, Southampton. The performance starts at 7.30pm. The piece tells the incredible story of the Fisk Jubilee Singers. The first educational establishment for emancipated slaves in the USA was Fisk University, in Nashville, Tennessee. Continue reading →

Language Learning In and Out of the Classroom: A one day symposium

A one day symposium to celebrate the academic career of Professor Rosamond Mitchell will take place on 18 June 2014. The symposium will pay tribute to Ros’s achievements in the fields of Education and Applied Linguistics over the past 40 years. The event will include an overview of Ros’s career by Professor Florence Myles, a series of talks on the theme of foreign language teaching and learning and a round table discussion about the future of language learning and teaching.
