Festival of British Archaeology

It is less than a week until the start of the Festival of British Archaeology – and we will be holding lots of events, both on and off-campus, during 2 weeks of the Festival. Routes into Languages is launching a new series of webinars on the topic of employability this week, with its first session taking place this Friday 10 July 2015 from 12:30 – 13:30. Entitled ‘Working as a translator or interpreter: ask the experts!’, the event aims to address an audience of students, teachers and trainers who are invited to ask questions to a panel of experts. Modern Languages eLearning Group launched

Modern Languages has launched a new eLearning Group. The Group has a blog which will feature the eLearning projects that our staff are engaged in, and report on our wide-ranging research and publications in this area. Some of the subjects being covered include the TwitTIAMO Project; Get Ready for Languages; free Digital Literacies learning resources, an Understanding Language: Learning and Teaching MOOC; our online MA in ELT programme and blogging from abroad. Bioarchaeology & Osteoarchaeology @ Southampton Interns (#BOSI)

Our first group of interns working on skeletal bioarchaeology started today – focusing on the human skeletons from the Anglo-Saxon cemetery at Great Chesterford in Essex. During the 3 week internship, topics to be covered by Dr Ellie Williams & Sarah Stark (with occasional help from others including Alistair Pike and Sonia Zakrzewski amongst others) will include ageing and sexing of human remains – and all the problems and issues that arise in trying to do this. LLAS publishes free, open access ebook to celebrate 10th elearning symposium

LLAS (Centre for Languages, Linguistics and Area Studies) in Modern Languages at Southampton has recently published a free, open access ebook: “10 Years of the LLAS elearning symposium: case studies in good practice”.
