‘Chinese for Business Communication’ and ‘Experiencing China’ evening classes starting January

As part of the University of Southampton’s Lifelong Learning programme, the Confucius Institute is offering evening classes in ‘Chinese for Business Communication’, providing training in Mandarin Chinese for absolute beginners for staff from the public or private sector, and ‘Experiencing China’ for anyone who wishes to develop a more in-depth understanding of China’s geography, history, education, family, customs and tourism. The Telegraph has published an article on the ten easiest languages to learn for English speakers. The article claims that, given the links that English has with other European Germanic languages and the quantity of words it contains from other languages, in particular Latin and French, when it comes to language study, English speakers are not starting from scratch. English as a Lingua Franca book launch

Co-authored by Alessia Cogo (University of Southampton), and Martin Dewey (King’s College London), and published by Continuum, the new book “Analysing English as Lingua Franca: a corpus investigation” was successfully launched at Somerset House, London, on 28th November 2012. The book was introduced by Jenny Jenkins from the University of Southampton, and several Southampton students and staff attended the launch hosted by King’s College London. Continue reading →
