Bookings now open for Modern Languages Lifelong Learning courses!

Lifelong Learning at the University of Southampton has recently announced an expanded programme for the coming semester, to include Modern Languages evening classes in 13 different languages, including Arabic, Chinese, Dutch, English as a Foreign Language, French, German, Greek, Italian, Japanese, Polish, Russian, Spanish and Portuguese. Modern Languages colloquium: Translating secularism

Modern Languages at Southampton is organising a colloquium in collaboration with the Institut Français de Londres which will take place on 18 and 19 September 2015 at Les Salons, Institut Français de Londres. Entitled ‘Translating secularism / Traduire la laĂŻcité’, the colloquium will explore concepts and practices of secularism and laĂŻcitĂ© in the public and private space. Technology to the rescue for students on their year abroad?

The Education Guardian recently reported on how technology is changing foreign study for students on their year abroad. Relating students’ personal stories, the article describes how the support of technologies such as Skype, Facebook and students’ smartphones whilst abroad has helped them to sort out a range out everyday language problems and combat occasional bouts of loneliness.
