Next CLLEAR seminar: “The effect of computational complexity on L1 transfer: evidence from L2 Chinese attitude-bearing wh-questions”

The next Centre for Linguistics, Language Education and Acquisition Research (CLLEAR) seminar will take place on Tuesday 12 May 2015 from 5:00-7:00pm in Building 46, Lecture Theatre B, Room 2003, Highfield Campus. Modern Languages Employability Gala

Students of Modern Languages are invited to the Modern Languages Employability Gala, taking place this Thursday 30 April 2015 in Lecture Theatre B and the café on Avenue Campus. An alumni panel will begin at 6pm, when Modern Languages alumni who are now working for NGOs, multinational companies, the Civil Service, charities and more will present on their career experiences thus far, and will explain how the skills they learnt at Southampton have helped them. A number of Modern Languages staff will be presenting at the Intercultural Connections Southampton Conference, taking place on Tuesday 28th April 2015 from 9:00-16:30 in Garden Court, Highfield Campus. Amongst the sessions, Julie Watson will be presenting on the following theme: “Get Ready for Southampton: a pre-arrival online transition course for all international students coming to the University of Southampton”. University of Southampton Voices to perform ‘Requiem in Blue’ this Saturday

A number of staff from Modern Languages at the University of Southampton will be participating in the University community choir’s performance of ‘Requiem in Blue’, at St Michael’s Church in Bugle Street, Southampton, this Saturday 25 April 2015. The University of Southampton Voices will perform alongside Cantores Michaelis and Romsey Abbey Primary School. The performance starts at 7.30pm. Continue reading →

The University of Southampton/British Council MOOC ‘Understanding Language: learning and teaching’ starts today (run through FutureLearn). This is the second run for this successful *FREE* online course, which has already attracted over 58,000 learners. This time around, we already have over 30,000 people signed up from more than 115 countries, ready to watch our new live sessions and contribute our discussions.
