Nearly 50 researchers from 17 universities came together on 29-30 Jun 15 at the University of Warwick in order to discuss their cutting edge research. Whilst having a common theme of anaerobic digestion, subject matter varied widely, from pot ale to bioelectrochemistry and metagenomics, with everything else in between.
Winners of the poster and platform presentation prizes in the 5 categories were:
- Optimisation of the AD Process
- Presentation: Mr Evangelos Petropoulos, Newcastle University
- Poster: Ms Chihiro Masusawa, University of Southampton
- Advanced tools for AD: Towards a biorefinery
- Presentation: Dr Tobias Grosskopf, University of Warwick
- Poster: Miss Roshni Paul, Newcastle University
- Industrial applications and novel approaches
- Mr Stephen Robertson, University of Southampton
- Dr William Nock, University of Southampton
- Feedstock and digestate utilisation
- Dr Thomas Aspray, Heriot Watt University
- Mr Uchenna Egwu, Newcastle University
- Process integration and modelling
- Mr Andrew Coughtrie, University of Leeds
- Dr Andrew Rollinson, University of Nottingham
The top prizes, kindly donated by the Society of Biology, went to Dr Tobias Grosskopf for his presentation on “Mutational reshaping of metabolism facilitates microbial syntrophy” and to Ms Chihiro Masusawa for her poster on “Anaerobic processing of ligno-cellulosic materials for bioenergy production under thermophilic and mesophilic conditions”. These can be found on our website as well as a larger photo gallery of the conference and the visit to the Severn Trent wastewater treatment plant at Minworth.
