A triple bill of great events

Web Science: the age of the social machine

At the Web Science Institute seminar held earlier this week WST board advisor, Anni Rowland-Campbell spoke on the socio-technical changes that are happening in the world as a result of the Social Machine, which began with the World Wide Web. Distinguished Lecture by Dr Ted Nelson: “Two Cheers for Now”

Starting soon: two new mini-MOOCs for our Web Science series

The University of Southampton and FutureLearn have recently launched two new courses in the Web Science MOOC Series. The original 6 week Web Science MOOC needed an update (amazingly it’s nearly 3 years since we started on this journey!) We have now split that course into a number of 2 week mini-MOOCs, with updates to the existing content and plenty of new material. “The Power of Social Media“ (#FLSocialMedia) begins on 25th April. Data Literacy Workshop at #WebSci15

This workshop was held as part of the Web Science 2015 Conference in Oxford, on a boiling June 30th. Invited speakers included Jonathan Gray, Director of Policy at the Open Knowledge Foundation, Katelyn Rogers from the School of Data and James Stewart from the Government Digital Services team.
