STANDING OUT AMONGST THE 5.4 MILLION

What makes us stand out from the 5.4 million other Singaporeans out there? They may not all be fighting with us for the same jobs, but in such a competitive country such as ours, what can we do in order to be that ‘outstanding’ one? Credits: themetapicture According to the Oxford Dictionary (2014), the definition of authentic is, “Of undisputed origin and not a copy; genuine”.  Sounds easy but yet so difficult to achieve. Number One: Credibility

Goodbye to resumes. Hello LinkedIn. *Waves* Gone were the days we relied heavily on our boring black and white resumes. One will unlikely be selected as a potential candidate if all they submit is that piece of paper listing all their achievements and experiences.   In today’s society, many have turned to the webs to create a professional portfolio of themselves and even recruiters are using them frequently. 93% of job recruiters tap into LinkedIn to find qualified candidates. Employers are viewing your profiles to determine what kind of person you are, who your connections are and how you present yourself. Continue reading →

Topic 3: Finding a job using resume? NAH NO MORE! Social media is trending for employability right now!

Photo Credit: EMPLOYola Surge via Pinterest “Resume is no longer the first step in the recruitment process; It’s one of the last.” (Ryan Holmes, 2012 – Reference 1) I can’t agree no more. How many of you have a Twitter/LinkedIn account before starting this module? For Twitter, I believe most of us have one but how about LinkedIn? Not many I guess. I did not have one until #MANG2049 taught me the importance of building a online professional profile. Continue reading →

Online meets Offline

“Self-branding is about being a signal in the noise of human capital. The stronger your brand, the stronger that signal.”  It makes you distinctive apart from your talents, otherwise “our individuality will be invisible.” (Chamorro-Premuzic, 2013) Building an authentic digital profile, I would say is a form of advertising yourself. No consumer likes a deceptive advertisement. Same goes to your target audience a.k.a your potential employer. Continue reading →
