We are what we drink: Understanding drinking cultures from the perspective of French Wine and Chinese Tea

We are what we drink! What does tea tell us about the Chinese or Burgundy about the French? What does drinking means to the people who consume or, equally tellingly, refuse to consume. What are the rituals and stories circulating around drinking? What do they tell us about consumption? We are what we drink! What does tea tell us about the Chinese or Burgundy about the French? What does drinking means to the people who consume or, equally tellingly, refuse to consume. What are the rituals and stories circulating around drinking? What do they tell us about consumption? From Ireland to Hong Kong, Mexico to Germany, drinking plays a key role in a wide range of functions religious, familial, social, even political. This event will give you first hand insights into two very different examples of “Drinking Culture’. It includes expert talks from University academics from University of Southampton and Zhejiang University, an introduction to the world of wine tasting by a renowned expert on Burgundy wines and a tea ceremony performed specialists from the China National Tea Museum.
