Diamond Jubilee project
Prof Anna Mauranen, Vice Rector of the University of Helsinki, spent the week of 16th February in Modern Languages, working with Jenny Jenkins on the Diamond Jubilee project. Building on their October meetings, they finalised the details of their project, ‘Linguistic diversity on the international campus’, planning in detail the data collection methods and the analytical frameworks to be applied to each type of dataset. They also discussed the primary publication that they expect to result from the project, the Handbook of EMI in Global Higher Education, and identified their preferred publisher. Although the project began as a comparative study of Helsinki and Southampton Universities, it has since expanded to include seven other (self funded) teams in Australia, China, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Netherlands and Spain. Data collection will begin on all nine sites at the start of March.
