Meaning in Language Learning Network news

The AHRC-funded Meaning in Language Learning network ( led by Professor Roumyana Slabakova (Director of CLLEAR) and Dr. Heather Marsden (York) held its first network event on Saturday, 24 of January, 2015. The aim of the network is to create opportunities for language teachers, language learning researchers, and language education policy makers to meet and exchange ideas around the theme of Meaning in the language-learning context. Participants came from Swansea, Brighton, Portsmouth, Bournemouth, Reading, Winchester, Romsey, and Southampton. Speakers included Dr. Tanya Riordan (Portsmouth), Professor Bill VanPatten (Michigan State U), Dr. Heather Marsden (York), Dr. Melinda Whong (Leeds), Dr. Kook-Hee Gil (Sheffield), Professor Ros Mitchell and Professor Roumyana Slabakova. The break-out and plenary discussions were lively and engaged. We received excellent feedback from the participants on how useful the day was for them. Next, the network will work on creating short teaching videos for particularly thorny meaning-related linguistic properties.
